When it comes to new Gen 1-4 Mega Evolutions in Z, should Game Freak cut down on how many Mega Evolutions they introduce? The bare necessities.

Um, you're forgetting gen 5..in which we have a whole 1 mega evolution. Enough of gen 3 and gen 1 megas lol.
We have enough pokemon families. Gen 7 should be nothing but evolutions, babies, alternate evolutions and mega evolutions.

Yeah there will be Gen 5 megas, there will likely be tons. Unova has to catch up, there can't be just a few. But they can cut down on Gen 1-4 megas in Z.
I know Slowking and Butterfree will get megas in Z. Dragonite is obvious.
I can see them going easy.
Mega Evolutions are a major reason to buy something like ORAS. Saving some for a Sinnoh Remake would be a major selling point. There are like 30 megas the anime hasn't shown yet plus whatevers in Z. They will have to be done by Fall 2017 for Gen 7. I can't see them introducing more than 35. Maybe less at 25 or 30. They like even numbers like 50 in ORAS...
The point is that it would be wasting money if they didn't go easy on mega evolutions and stagger them throughout Z and Gen 7 games. Thats throwing away a major selling point for Gen 7 games.

Gen ll - Starters/Ariados/Sudowoodo (Though Slowking is almost 100% confirmed to get one due to slowbro having mega form)
Gen lll - Flygon, but it already looks perfect, so it would be hard to give it mega with decent design.
Gen IV - Starters/Toxicroak/Carnivine(But Froslass would get it just like Slowking)
