Anon, the problem with Pokemon parodies is that they're anti-progress.
You have /co/neheads that accept that TV has changed but there's still enjoyable even rebooted shit in the modern age like Ninja Turtles. You have /v/ideodrones who for the most part accept progress, albeit kicking and screaming
Genwunning is the oddman out in this cultural stew, not just /vp/. The problem is the lack of staying current, not the "true fandom" image you think you're projecting. You sound like an old man who poo-poos instant messaging because telegrams were your thing. You sound like a guy who thinks cellphones were better when they were bricks you put in your car. You sound the man who thought MP3 players were a fad because CDs have seniority.
In 5-10 years from now, not many currently into the series is gonna know who the fuck Brock and Misty are when they appear in a Pokemon parody filled with season 1 jokes. That's a fact of life. You might have some "us fans, right" nods but a lot of those guys are the out of touch fogeys.

The reason Gen 1 things are used in parodies is the same reason Nintendo always uses them for advertising. It's because they're the most recognizable, for old time fans and current ones.
It also helps that early Pokemon are far simpler in their designs (read: simpler, not better), so they're easier to draw and/or animate.
Not every parody is by genwunning faggots. Some, but not all. But if generalizing makes you feel better about yourself, then go right ahead.
