OP here

In case the intent of this thread isn't clear - what are some Pokemon which started off strong and kept getting better with each generation?
>>
Azumarill definitely comes to mind

Ohh. That's what it is...
Picture related.
>>
Blaziken is defenitly one of Game Freak's favorite.
It was outclassed by Infernape in Gen 4 then given a huge boost in Gen 5 with the stronger HJK and Speed Boost. I think they boosted HJK's base power just so Blaziken would have a stronger STAB move than Infernape.
>>
>>24852257
Exactly the same sentiment I have

>>24852285
This one, too has gotten nothing but be better every gen

Usual suspects:
Gengar, Cloyster, Lucario, Tyranitar, and those that remain OU since their conception

>>
Greninja, the new Lucario
>>
>>24852282
How did Breloom get stronger in Gen 6?
Spore was nerfed and fairies exist now.
>>
>>24852386
Steel gets same treatment so auradoge etc etc
>>
>>24852407
It's still OU while all other fighting types that arent blaziken or lucario are falling behind

I still dont understand why a mushroom can hit harder than most fighting types dedicated into mastering martial arts
>>
>>24852290
This. Gengar has been buffed in every single generation and for that reason is the only Pokemon who has been OU since day one. It's also one of the genwunner favorites so I don't think GF will ever stop catering to gengarfags. I can't wait to see how they buff it in Gen VII.
>>
>>24852407
It got stronger when they finally made it evolve from Luvdisc.
>>
>>24852315
Cloyster is UU
>>
>>24852485
Starmie.
>>
>>24852503
Starmie dropped to UU if I recall correctly while Greninja and Aegislash still prowled OU
>>
>>24852407
Rock Tomb got boosted to 60 Base Power and 95% accuracy, just so Breloom doesn't insta lose to Talonflame.
>>
>>24852478
>TPCi cares about tiering
>>
>>24852508
With the corrected tiers Jolteon would also fall into that category but it dropped into UU recently
>>
>>24852282
Lucario

Gen IV introduced Physical / Special split and literally giving Lucario the stats it needs to be the best at both worlds, and it has amazing speed (at the time)

Gen V didn't really its time to shine, but

Gen VI gave it a massive boost in mega evolution, essentially putting it at the same level as Pseudo Legendaries.
>>
>>24852525
Um, anon, it's RU actually.
>>
>>24852524
No they dont. But we can see the aftermath on the tiering, retard

Any pokemon receiving buffs every generation is bound to see an increase in usage
>>
They've let quite a few pokemon fall from grace. Digtrio and Jolteon are examples that come off the top of my head.
>>
>>24852686
Dugtrio*
Also Mew.
>>
>>24852686
Snorlax too. Was OU in every generation up to 5 if my memory serves me right.

There are also a bunch of failures which were designed with competitive in mind but ended up being shitmons. Dusknoir and Electivire come to mind.
>>
>>24852713
Dusknoir really needs a mega. They made it obsolete by introducing eviolite

Why is Jolteon RU anyways? Is basically Mega Manectric but doesn't occupies a mega slot, only has one weakness, is really fast and 110 SpA is not bad.

Jolteon's movepool is decent compared to Manectric, that only has Fire-type moves.
>>
>>24852690
Mew returned to OU a while ago and it's still pretty good.

>>24853036
The years haven't been too kind. Power creep pushed it out of OU, and the UU environment was too much for it as well. When Raikou moved up to OU, Heliolisk took its place in UU since it actually works much better there than Jolteon.

Basically, Jolteon's fast but frail and has shit for coverage in places where it needs it to thrive.

>Is basically Mega Manectric but doesn't occupy a mega slot
Mega Man's ability to pivot with Intimidate is what makes it so good. Jolteon can pivot, yeah, but it's just not the same.

Regular Manectric will drop to RU soon enough anyway.

>cleffable
woah man, that thing was forgotten for a long time, and bisharp and ferrothorn don't really have a legacy of being favored, they just came out good. bisharp wasn't even that good when it was first released in gen5.

gengar, gyarados, scizor, ttar, and garchomp tho...yes
>>
>>24853119
>Clefable

Rest of them, yes.
>>
>>24853127

>forgotten

clefable got tons of moves every gen, two broken abilities, and even a stat boost. they did everything to try and make it viable despite its type and stats, and when it got fairy all of that shit compounded into the broken mess it is now.
>>
>>24853036

Not really agreeing on Bisharp, he was very underwhelming the first time he got introduced. The buffs he got in 6 were rather accidental (as in, they didn't come with the sole purpose of buffing Bisharp), whereas something like Gengar and Tyranitar literally had free stuff thrown at them like candies.

>gen 3 - huge power
>gen 4 - phys/special split, physical water moves, aqua jet
>gen 5 - briefly hits OU for the first time thanks to Drizzle
>gen 6 - Fairy typing, AssVest, DrumJet finally becomes legal
not bad
>>
>>24852407
Rock Tomb buff helped it immensely.
>>
>>24853036
One of Mega Man's greatest assets is Intimidate, though. It also has a better movepool.
>>
Togepi line
>is hyped up as the special mystery egg
>becomes Mistys shouldermon in the anime
>gets an evolution later on with amazing stats, movepool and ability
>then gets fairy typing (and Defog too I guess)
>>
>>24853304
Access to Flamethrower/Overheat is also a huge reason why it's good, since it's the only Electric type that can smack around the likes of Ferrothorn and Excadrill
>>
Did Mawile have the biggest single buff in the franchise?

hello
>>
>>24852472

Steel's advantage over Fairy is because cold iron is fairy repellent in the myths. Sugimori's fursona benefiting was just a fortunate coincidence for him.
>>
>>24852386

fire, steel and poison reflect industry, which overwhelms magic.

Weavile/sneasel, but only in the anime screen time. The poor thing has only gotten one buff and no new not pointless ability since 4th gen
>>
>>24853361
Mawile has been bottom tier trash for 2,5 generations
>>24853363
Too early to tell. Currently it's not that good in doubles, which is GFs default meta. It gets shilled a lot though
>>
>>24853488
Weavile was always pretty solid. Started off strong in gen 4 and remained quite viable until ORAS, where he skyrocketed to top tier. He was also one of the Pokemon they used to showcase yen 4 along Lucario, and he got into Pokken. Overall I'd rate it 8/10 on the pandering scale.

literally nothing went wrong other than being affected by ground type moves
>>
>>24853661
Magnezone's like the only Gen 4 evo that has consistently (key word here) remained in OU. Trapping Steels is always handy.
>>
>>24852478
Stretchy limbs make you hit absurdly hard for some reason. See Mewtwo X.
>>
>>24855643
Hitmons have projectile limbs. Please explain
>>
>>24853341

>>

Fucking goddamn Gengar. I will never, NEVER forgive Gamefuck for removing Shadow Tag from Best Ghost only to slap it onto Sugimori's little buttbuddy piece of shit ruined Haunter evo. Fuck Gengar and everything it stands for. Fuck it into eternity. Every single gen it gets something nice.
>Gen 2, Shadow Ball
>Gen 3, ENJOY ONE OF YOUR CRITICAL FUCKING WEAKNESSES THAT ACTUALLY BALANCED YOU TURNING INTO AN IMMUNITY FUCKING FUCK YOU
>Gen 4 special split makes BOTH of its STABs better
>Gen 5 Disable now 100% accurate

>jesus fuck Gen 6
>How to make Gengar a ridiculous piece of shit: The Generation
>add a new type, make it weak to Gengar's STAB
>remove Steel's resistance to Ghost so that Gengar has perfect coverage
>GIVE AN ALREADY PERMA-OU MON A FUCKING MEGA-EVO WITH ONE OF THE MOST BROKEN ABILITIES IN THE GAME

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA FUCK GENGAR I WILL NEVER NOT BE FURIOUS AT THAT UGLY ABOMINATION

It's all the worse because I actually like the Ghost type in general, but so many other Ghosts are crowded out because "lol why use anything but Gengar"
>>
>>24855996

Gengar is the best Pokemon.
>>
How is Garchomp liked? Salamence got the good mega instead of him and Dragon Dance still isn't available.

Are you kidding? He's been topping OU charts since it's introduction. The fact that GameFreak didn't manage to improve on him much by slapping a meh Hidden Ability and an even meh'er Mega doesn't change shit.

He also appears on promotional materials quite a lot (more often than other pseudos like Salamence or Goodra for example).

>Dragon Dance
yeah, he only got Swords Dance instead, poor Garchomp
