I love Digimon, I like it more then I like Pokemon but this just isn't true, at least from what I've found in researching it over the years.

Unless there's something else that came before the first Digimon V-Pet, but I haven't been able to find anything. The Pokemon anime also started the year before the Digimon anime. Although the C'mon Digimon manga pilot was in the same year as Pokemon's anime.
But it doesn't matter, they are entirely different things. The similarities people like to compare are generally pretty superficial and surface level.

Harder to find good art for your average Digimon then it is your average Pokemon, at least.
