Damn. I was hoping Dragonite would be playable. Charizard took the winged reptilian bruiser fighting style, and I understand why, but I think Dragonite would've been more varied and fun. Icons win it out. Oh well, interested to see what the support does.

But anon, that's objectively wrong. Charizard, Rayquaza, the Latis, the Spacetime trio and probably Sceptile are all more popular than Dragonite. Dragonite's most notable feature in the collective consciousness is "that fat Barney thing my cool snake dragon turned into."

Charizard and Sceptile aren't Dragon types. Megas don't count since they're not the forms people have in mind when they say "Charizard" or "Sceptile".
Latis aren't all that popular, and neither is Rayquaza. Most people hate the Space trio for looking like shitty digimon rejects.
Dragonite on the other hand was for a long time the only fully evolved Dragon in the game. It was Champion's ace Pokemon in two different generations and also boasts a highly popular NFE form. It's what most people have in mind when they hear the phrase "Dragon type".
Whatever they put in Pokken instead will be objectively speaking an inferior choice compared to THE original Dragon-type.

In your opinion. The fact of the matter is that polls have been taken and Dragonite isn't even a blip on them. It may have been the face of the Dragon type once upon a time, but that time has long since passed. Other, better Pokemon rep the type now.
Don't worry, though. I'm sure they'll include a "true" Dragon in the game at some point. Perhaps Salamence or Garchomp.

I've been a member of various discussion boards over the past 10 or so years and Dragonite has always been the go-to Dragon type. Salamence was somewhat hated for taking Dragonite's spot (at least until the latter got Multiscale). Garchomp is popular with competitive folk, but it's hard to say how many people genuinely like it for it's design (I for one can't stand it).

They most likely do. With Sceptile recently added as a Grass type rep the only missing types are (true) Dragon, Rock, Ground, Normal and Bug. With every other type already being represented it would make no sense to just leave them out.

We already have Machamp and Blaziken as the punching and kicking specialists, and they do more than just that.
