Gen 2 gave us Ledian, the region was neat, but kanto was dead and it made me sad. I don't hate it or any of the generations, but that's the one that's given me the most disappointment.

I'm actually not sure how to answer this. I've liked all of the generations to a certain extent. Gen III, in spite of all its quirks, is still nostalgic for me and contains some of my favorite Pokemon designs. IV was also a pretty fun time. In the past I might have harped on the Pokemon designs, but even those have grown on me. VI I've had the least to do with, but I feel like it would misleading to say that it's my least favorite as I don't think it's really bad at all.

When I was younger, my favorite was always the newest generation. That kind of stopped at gen 3 though, since I loved gen 3 to death for the longest time. Now I like gen 4 the best.

5, definitely. An all new region with all new Pokemon was a godsend. It was full of the spark that made Pokemon a worldwide phenomenon in the first place.

4 or 6. 4 wasn't memorable enough and dragged on with way too many legendaries. There was no challenge in Gen 4. The same can be said about 5 and 6, but 5 had vibrant cities and NPCs and a story. Gen 4 felt...sleepy? The color palette was faded, the music was cozy, and the movement was notoriously slow. It all combined into a boring region. 6 started out nicely but hasn't demonstrated that Pokemon spark yet. It feels bland and empty. Not unpleasant, just bland. I'm holding off final judgement until it's run its course though.
For argument's sake, I'm referring to a generation as the new region it introduced. Not as the entire span. For example, by Gen 4 I mean DPPt, not DPPtHGSS and all the spinoffs that happened during that time. Because that entire era was fan-fucking-tastic, my only beef is with Sinnoh itself.

I didn't grow up with gen 3 like most of my age group. Was given an original gameboy at 7 with pokemon blue, and that was my life for years until I got my DS Lite and Pokemon Diamond from a friend.

Second. It expanded on the first, while still maintaining most of the flavor. Other gens went farther in style, and that's not a bad thing, but my Typhlosion Agni will always have a special place in my heart

The early game mons are shitty, yes. You're supposed to replace them.
Gen 5's starters are disappointing, I'll give you that, but the meat of the game is filled with cool Pokemon and good times. You basically read two chapters of a big-ass book and never let it build up before you quit.
