Do you (Did you?) pronounce any Pokemon, moves or abilities strangely?

I used to pronounce Facade as fack-ade

and of course, the obvious Arceus as Are-See-Us

Any others?
>>
>>24826443
>Are-See-Us
but the official pronuciation is shit, so it doesn't matter
>>

Used to proneounce Kyogre as key-o-gre
I'm hispanic
>>
>>24827338

I always thought it was (KIAEE O GRE)
>>
I'm sure I did, but I can't remember any of them specifically. I think I used to put more emphasis on the "vee" in Eevee. So it came out of my mouth as "ee-VEE".

A friend of mine would not stop pronouncing Kyogre as "ko-guy-ur" for like 2 years, though.
>>
For years I thought it was special rend and I don't know why
>>
>>24827338
I've pronounced Kyogre at least four or five different ways over the course of my life.

I'm still not completely sure which one is right.
>>
>>24827346
Fuck, I still pronounce it like that.
>>
I was a dumb child when I played 3rd gen for the first time and didn't bother pronouncing much of anything, so I pronounced Gardevoir as gar-de-vore.
>>
>>24827399
Until I started learning French, I pronounced it the same.

Also, when we were kids, my brothers and I would add another -ta to Rattata: Rattatata. Now, we don't know why we did that.
>>
>>24827396

what is it supposed to be
>>
>>24827416
My friend would take a step further. He'd pronounce it Rattatatter.
Why? He wasn't British, fuck, I dunno.
>>
>>24826443
>I used to pronounce Facade as fack-ade
Fay-Kayd here.
>>
>>24827420
Based on the Japanase pronounciation, it must be something like Kai+Ogre
>>
ray-kwa-za :^)

Also, Ho-Ho instead of Ho-Oh.
>>
I'm still not sure how to pronounce Xatu. Is it something like Satu, Csatu or what?
>>
>>24827466
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Ecks-atu, but I usually just say it as 'Zatu'.
>>
>>24826466
Daily reminder that RP is a French accent w/o the nasal vowels.

This

Its like the Greek philosophical idea of the ἀρχή.

>Arche (Ancient Greek: ἀρχή) is a Greek word with primary senses "beginning", "origin" or "source of action". (εξ’ ἀρχής : from the beginning, οr εξ’ ἀρχής λόγος: the original argument)

They don't teach English where I live until the 5th grade so I had to learn it by myself.
I used to pronounce potions as pot-yons from 3rd to 5th grade, and I still refer to them that way in my mind when I play Pokemon.
Also we got the jap copycat r/s here before the anime was aired, so I called everything by a different name, although the only one I remember is calling groudon Ruby and kyogre Sapphire.
>>
>>24828292
Sadly reading properly is no longer a requisite for passing a class.
I've seen people in fucking college struggling to read out loud.

>>
>>24828335
Technically it's a whole cluster fuck of mistakes. The DIA in Dialga is the japanese mispronunciation of the english D.I.A. from Diamond. Given its etymology it should be pronounced almost like Die'l-guh, or at least die-al-guh. The PAL in Palkia is the romanized form of the japanese phonetic PA-RU which is the Japaneal pronunciation of the english "PEARL" making that etymologically Pearl-kee-uh
>>

Friend of mine used to pronounce Kyogre like Qua-gar.

I still pronounce Rayquaza like Ray-quah-zah. Everyone tells me it's Ray-quay-za.

Standardized testing (useless) and political correctness.
>>
Ar-see-us all the way. Also that feel when you realize Giratina is too similar to "puratina" (Japanese platinum) not to be Giratinum or Guillotinum.
>>
From days hosting Pokemon TCG league at my hobby shop:

Man-tiki
Ho-ho
Rai-coo
Whish-cash
Chime-cho(wtf is chime-echo)
Groundon
Rata-tatta

>>
>>24826443
Your pronunciation of Arceus was correct for a while though
>>
>>24826443
>Are-See-Us
that's correct though. the reason they changed the pronounciation to a hard C is because "arse" is slang for ass in britbong and they didn't want their "GOD" pokemon being the butt of jokes.

You pronounce it correctly according to Pokédex 3D Pro, which is the most up to date and correct for pronunciations.

i am a european that does not belong to any of the official languages.

so obviously the pronouncations of Pokemon are different.
>>
>>24830811
It's Arc-Kay-us because Arch-Deus (Supreme God)

but everyone pronounces it Ar-SEE-us
>>
>>24830853
deus is pronounced day-oos, that'd make it ark-ay-oos.

Same.
I can to this day not think of "Street Fighter" and "Mortal Kombat" as anything but "meaningless syllables that are the names of video games".

Likewise, it's really easy to forget that shit like "hulk" and "hedgehog" are actual English words and not just (part of) character names.
>>
>>24830873

>day-oos

it's day-uhs you twat.
>>
My sister says Lue-guy-ah instead of Lue-gi-ah all because she says it sounds like a loogie.

>>
>>24830801
>Rai-coo
This is literally correct
>>
>>24831480

the japs also say "genesect" with a hard g when it's based on "genome" or "genesis," with a soft g. doesn't mean shit.
>>
>>24833278
It's rai-koh.

The long O "oo" sound is just U when writing Japanese words as romanizations.
>>
>>24833311
What about Chinchou?
>>
>>24828529
No but I mean when people very specifically annunciate the "dragon" and "night" as if they're too different words, pausing and pronouncing the N twice.
>>
>>24833311
No you dumb fuck
English names are not Japanese romanizations so your rules don't apply
>>
>>24827399
Fuck, I still pronounce it like this
>>
>>24833302
It's based on the German word "Genom" you retarded motherfucker.
