A generation should be more to you than just the next reveal. Nintendo took pretty good anti-hacker measures on both the WiiU and 3DS. The reason why they are both hacked and PS4 isn't, is due to more interest and a higher demand.
For that same reason that there is already emulators for both the 3DS and WiiU that have been making gigantic leaps in progress. That and exclusives.

Pretty sure part of it is the 3DS and Wii U would have lower hardware requirements than the PS4, and the Wii U is partially based on the Wii for its specs so there's familiarity there.

And similar hardware spec mean jack shit. The WiiU uses a different architecture from the Wiis powerPC architecture. Also all the system calls outside of vWii mode are completely different.
The WiiU is only backwards compatible because it has a separate processor and the needed hardware to emulate the Wii. The hardware used in WiiU mode could never emulate Wii stuff.
