Diantha isn't terrible.
She had the decency to not be monotype, and although she's a tremendous waste of a character, her music/design are salvageable enough. Which is more than can be said for Alder or Iris.
I'd put her below Asshole/Lance/Steven/Cynthia, but she's better than the others.

Think of them as points. Each character gets X amount of points per category. In this case, think of the maximum amount of points = champions used.
Max points = 8.
Min points = 1.
>Cinthya: 8+8+5+5+8+5=24+15=39.
>Green/Blue: 7+6+8+8+5+7=41.

I don't get why people don't like Iris.
She's a cute brown loli that becomes the Champion using her favorite type of Pokemon. She can even masterfully control notoriously difficult to handle monsters like Hydreigon and Dragons are known to be temperamental, in general.
Aside from that, she's qt as fuck and would be really fun to play with. She helps MC in the story of BW2, like how Lance does in GSC. So she has a naturally kind and helpful personality, despite her fame and riches.
She has impeccable fashion sense, rocking a majestic dress like some princess or noble lady.
Hell, she hasn't even gone through puberty and she's the greatest trainer in the region. She can wear and do whatever she wants.
AND she looks delicious doing so, too.

How? She doesn't do anything. It's very funny because she talks to the player when they first arrive in Opelucid City, but when Team Plasma attacks a short while later, she's nowhere to be found.
