My favorite Pokemon overall is Latios and it turned out to be great in competitive since its inception, but I rarely use it apart from in the Battle Tower/Frontier/Maison.

I know the feeling OP. I love all the Regis but they're mediocre. I was lucky enough to get a legit shiny Registeel with correct nature and actual usable IVs recently, but trying to fit him in over all the other steel types I breed is hard to justify.
My absolute bro Magnezone is pretty situational too, but deadly when used right at least. Registeel can't do shit with that attack.

The fact that Shedinja can end up being invincible once key pokemon are down means it still has its niche.
Sableye is more versatile but if you have Shedinja and your opponent's final three have no means of damaging it, you still win.
All Shedinja needs is for Wonder Guard to also act as Magic Guard so you don't have to worry about hazards and status.
