Why is there so little hype for this game? I only see people bitching about there being no new mainseries game announcement, but Pokken Tournament looks so much better than anything Game Freak could shit out nowadays. Who knows, maybe this game could become the next Smash!

Unique gameplay for a fighting game, variation in characters (most of the characters they have so far play entirely differently). It just looks limited and pokemon games are at their most fun and unique when you're a trainer of some sort, all this "you are a pokemon" bullshit is aimed mainly at little kids.
Aiming it as little kids, rather than at everyone already cuts out a large segment of pokemon fans, not enought to make a game unviable but a lot of the older fans won't be raving about it. Slice off another section of your fans after that because of those fans left the majority will be too young for a shop to allow them to buy a fighting game that the local ratings board have rated 12 or above because it contains fisticuffs/cartoon violence, only kids with deadbeat parents, with access to a card to buy online or who have a shop that doesn't give a shit who they sell games to will be able to get a copy. So you're left with a quite small pool of people who would actually buy the game even if it is actually better than Smash Bros, which I doubt.
Going back to the "you are a pokemon" games are shit compared to games when you're a trainer to prove this point compare Mystery Dungeon with the main series games and games or even pokemon ranger. The main series games and spinoffs like ranger are just better by a long chalk, this is a fact even the biggest fan of pokemon dungeon can't argue with. You can even compare the pokemon trainer character from the older smash bros games with the individual pokemon we get instead now, the trainer was way better and added another layer of tactics and fun.
So it is hardly surprising that a kiddie game that most kids can't play and won't be as fun as a real pokemon game isn't getting as much buzz as a new main series game would.

Except it didn't. Pokemon trainer was unviable because you had to switch out regularly as pokemon became fatigued. Switching out took a random amount of time depending on how quickly the game could load. Pokemon had type weaknesses which meant that some matchups became really one-sided for no reason. Also brawl isn't the "older smash bros game" you underage b&. Both melee and 64 are older than it and didn't have pokemon trainer.

I get that they didn't want to go the obvious route and include JUST fighting types, but was it wise to hardly include any? Also some fighting type pokemon are some of the ones I would most want to play this game as.
The Hitmons, Poliwrath, Hariyama. They're designed with melee combat in mind so obviously when you think of a fighting game for Pokemon, you want to see them fighting.

It was advertised as a collaboration with the Tekken guys so I was expecting at least Tekken-style. Terrible roster doesn't help either.

I don't recommend Mario Maker, after the novelty of a new game wears off you really start to notice the editor limitations.
Nintendo has those Event Courses and recently put up one that was just 1-1 and 1-2 from SMB1 and you could just tell what was missing (no sub-zones, they had to change the platforms at the end of 1-2, etc.) And SMB1 is the most complete game of the four skins feature-wise.

It's the first in a fighting game, there aren't going to be that many characters. The roster size grows over time, it doesn't start out huge. Smash started out with 12 characters, now it has over 50.
If you wanted like a 40 character roster then half of them would have been shit out clones. Just hope Pokken takes off so it becomes a series, then your roster will get bigger.
