Here's a tip for aspiring ROM hackers:
If you're going to add ANY of the things I mentioned, rip whatever designs, locations, and dialogue you can from other games in the series. Anything you create yourself will stick out like a sore thumb.

It's not that it wouldn't fly. It's just unlikely we'll get another Colosseum or Gale of Darkness.
It sucks that even though Pokemon Essentials makes fangame creation a cakewalk, fans won't try their hand at making something different. Even the edgy fangames require you to collect badges for a contrived reason. It just gets tiring after 17 years.

There's usually some requirement that you need badges to do HM moves outside of battle, and despite you being in some time criticial situation where you NEED to use that move to save someone's life, the gym leader doesn't just hand you the badge or use the HM move themselves.
And nobody has explained why you magically need badges to teach pokemon how to swim outside of a fight.

The pokedex is full of of edgy shit but the game weirdly never acknowledges that danger. The game is set up like some kind of utopia where nothing is ever dangerous. For fuck sake, they let kids as young as 10 leave home where there's all sorts of dangerous shit that could kill you in seconds. What the fuck? We don't have pokemon in this world but a child leaving home is just negligence.
