Could an "attack" command be implemented in the Pokemon series, or is the combat too fundamentally built on using one of 4 moves?
>>

Depends what that "Attack" command would do.

Care to elaborate?
>>
>>24797847
No, but timed button presses like in the Mario & Luigi games would work wonders.
>>
it's called tackle
>>
>>24797870
You're kidding, right?
>>
>>24797903

It's a valid question I think because there's no real basis for it yet. Would it have a base power like a regular move? Would it be normal or typeless?
>>
>>24797870
A basic attack with no special effect whatsoever simply called "attack".

But what difference would it make? We have things like tackles, headbutts or slashes.
>>
>>24797903
Yeah I'm kidding, I'm gonna agree to add some button that OP hasn't described whatsoever other than a very ambiguous name, not even mentioning which stat it uses or how much damage it does.

Are YOU kidding?
>>
>>24797903
the OP is vague as fuck.
>>
>>24797881
no
>>
A typeless 50BP "attack" command would be fine, and it could be physical or special depending on which stat (Attack or SpAtt) is higher.

>Struggle
>Tackle/Pound/Scratch
>>
Mystery Dungeon does this

Mario & Luigi doesn't have a competitive scene.
>>
>>24798033
>damages the user, can only be used when no other move can be used
>aren't typeless, count as "one of four moves"
>>
>>24798124
>adding mechanical elements would somehow make the competitive scene less and not more skilll intensive
Or are you just mad Zarel wouldn't be able to implement them :^)
>>

Good, metagames belong in MMOs, MOBAs, and fighting games, not turn-based RPGs.
>>
It could threaten stall, so it would be banned in Showdown anyways if it was implemented.

kill yourself

How can some weak ass typeless default attack do any real damage to things that easily balk STAB neutral attacks from their stronger defensive side? In fact it would benefit stall even more because mons with 4 status moves won't struggle to death upon being taunted.

Considering how Smogon usually does shit, it'd probly just be factored in automatically.

It's a sim and its designed for a perfect level of play. That's why you can just set IVs and whatever. Anything that requires input will just be auto-done on any Smogon supported sim.
