So far it seems like the balance is way better, though it heavily discourages set up and stall pretty much everything except for a select few is viable.
Plenty of things are different from the Pokemon games, you can relearn moves any time you want, you can increase the evs you want without having to farm a certain type of doll, and breeding is a lot easier.

EV training and skill selection is vastly improved, allowing you to allocate your own stat points where you want and swap out moves on the fly.
IV grinding and 'mon capturing is also made much easier, with IV grinding no longer requiring the stupidly long process of hatching eggs and capturing requiring you to simply KO the puppet you've sealed.
There's no legendary drama, andmostpuppets are completely viable for pretty much anything. This also allows you to pick your own starter out of the entire cast.

Here's how to use it, if that's what you mean. It's trial and error to get all to S. If you've got plenty of fragments and a bit of time, it's not that bad. Once you get one to at least 2 S ranks it gets way quicker.

Well, every router is different. Mine doesn't require an application to be named, just set it to Custom, if yours has it anyway.
The IP address should be (at least for mine) your Computer's IP address on your network.
Mine doesn't ask for Public or Private ports. I just set the port to 10800 (since I used it for Hisoutensoku a while back and that's what everyone used).
Traffic Type as Any is fine.
When trying to let someone connect to you, you need to give a Public address. A "192.168" address is an internal address for your router and no one would be able to access that (except someone else on your Router as well).
You'd use something like whatismyip dot com and see if it shows you a public address (it would not be a 192.168 address). If so, that's what you'll want to give to somebody to connect to you (as well as the port you forwarded, so 10800 in this case).
The other way to do it is to make yourself the DMZ on your router. This is not secure in the least, but your computer would then be the most outside part of your network (in front of your router, so pretty much it would be Internet -> Your Computer -> Your Router -> Your Internal Network) which makes it somewhat unsafe. Either way, if you set yourself as the DMZ, then no other settings would be necessary. You should be able to get your Public IP at whatismyip dot com and use any port as all would be open to you as the DMZ (though use one that's not used by other protocols, like 10800)

The most recent, up-to-date ones that come to mind are Purple (Ten Desires), Unnamed (Double Dealing Character), and Faith & Prayer Version (RPG Maker XP, Hopeless Masquerade). Purple is 100% complete, Unnamed is complete but the developer is still working on it to try and get LoLK in, and Faith & Prayer is in development with roughly 40 hours of gameplay (It's currently up to early Johto). All those listed are part of the 1.8 Generation. Anything from 1.5 will have, at best, up to Great Fairy Wars/Hisoutensoku. If you want something from that, Blue and Merry version are your best bets imo.

Original Kappas have the little shells over their heads, and demon is the best generic term for oni.
