There's no Wii U Pokemon game yet, but the 3DS library is pretty big in that regard since it's backwards compatible with regular DS games too. You have pretty much several options with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black/White (2), and then the latest releases which are X/Y and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

Especially with the release of RBY in the markeplace next year, 3DS has the largest library of Pokemon games to date:
>Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
>Heart Gold/Soul Silver
>Black/White
>Black2/White2
>X/Y
>Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
>Red/Blue/Yellow
With a 3DS and a cheap Gameboy Advance you have access to every main series Pokemon game.
There are no main series Pokemon games on the Wii U

You might not even need a GBA, seeing as though we have 3DS Homebrew in the works.
You can get all cozy with the 3DS XL on your bed or couch or wherever.
Get a flashcart, something like the DSTwo and you can just play every 4th and 5th gen game ROM, and even more games, so yea.
For gen6, play your choice of either X or Y, seeing as you played Emerald and ORAS has nowhere near the amount of content as Emerald.
Play it if you're a huge Gen3 fan or demand 3D fight scenes. Otherwise, X/Y are a pretty good Pokemon experience despite the lack of post game.
The better question is why is the Wii U so shitty?
