I have never played a picross game before, and i've loved this so far up until the paywall.

Do you guys think it's somewhat worth it to pay the 30 bucks if I already like it?
>>

picross ds is the best picross game ever made and you can get a physical copy for$10, so no, unless you already own all the other picross games

for 30 bucks you can get 5 of the picross eseries games off eshop
mario's picross features 250 levels at 4 bucks off eshop or free if you get a rom
any eseries features 150-300 levels for 6 each
picross 3/DS are both retail and aren't that expensive

If you wanna buyout the paywall that's fine but be aware that there are plenty of options.

If we're talking ROMs, Mario Picross 2 is even better, 800 puzzles with two different modes (one where you get corrected on mistakes at a time penalty, one where you don't). It expects you to have played the original though, the game gets hard pretty quick compared to Mario's Picross 1.

Game Boy. The reason it has so many puzzles is because almost all of them are mini-mosaics, where they're split into four 15x15 puzzles to make a 60x60 image. There aren't too many Mario-related images since they kind of ran out by the end of the first one, but Picross is great even when it doesn't have a theme.

im not talking about missions, im talking about medals.

what im suggesting is going to S 00-06 and spending all your excess energy doing it over and over again so you can grind for the "x ability uses" medals, which reward picrites.

its a total pittance but if you want to be f2p you gotta take every little advantage.
>>
>>24794059
It's "mega picross," like in the eseries games. Some clues span two rows, so the filled-in squares have to span both rows too.

Like I was saying in the last thread, I always fuck up on Mew. Like 4 or 5 times already. This is the only puzzle this happens to me more than once

>pic related
Just realized I fucked up again somewhere in the right side
>>
>>24794470
you fucked up on the top too. the 3 is not possible.

my advice when this kind of thing happens to me is to take it really easy when you redo it. start by ONLY doing the really really easy to figure out lines, and double check them. IGNORE any lines where you think you can find a solution if you think about it enough. focus only on those easymode lines until there arent any left double checking everything along the way, THEN you can think about some of the harder lines that require more counting.

doing it 4-5 times and messing up usually means youre making a logic error, so you need to both focus on easy stuff as well as fact check yourself
>>
>>24794470

I got that mistake too as well in the first time. I relaxed a bit, quit and tried it again. Use a pkmn power as well. There are some really helpful once as well.

I'd still like to be able to do it with out Pokemon hints like most of the others I've done so far. I don't know what it is about that particular corner.

I downloaded Picross DS yesterday, but I really need to get used to the zoom-in first. Thinking of diving into the e series.

Anyway, I'm really loving the Pokemon theme though, but as it is now it's just way to expensive. Even only buying half the Picrites wouldn't get you anywhere.
I wonder if the game will get updates, but it really doesn't look like that. If it had all Pokemon and formes available I would buy it in a second.

so for the purpose of the medals, it counts every possible use of the ability, not just the activation. so for example, treeko's auto-fix has 5 uses, and if you use all 5 in one puzzle, it counts as 5 towards the purpose of the medal achievement

Are you retarded? To move from area 5 to 6, it costs 100. Add 10 to that cost for each zone you go further and that 800 picrites only gets you to area 11
>40 puzzles for free
There's not 10 puzzles in each area. By area 4, you kwnly have 22 puzzles, and that's including using passwords and the mythical Pokémon that you have to wait for.
>>
>>24809927
To unlock all 30 areas you'd need at least 3000 Picrites. And that isn't even taking unlocking the alt. world stages and megas in account.

What is the training level that gives you the highest bonus picrites? I'm at level 9, with 3 bonus picrites and I'm having difficulties finishing 5 puzzles within the time limit.
>>
>>24815929
i just got the daily training level 10 medal today and i have a suspicion it doesnt go any higher, which would mean its 8+3=11 picrites max per day.
>>
>>24816030
Figures. So there's no additional picrite incentive for levelling up beyond level 8 training, right? The bonus was at 3 picrites at level 8 as well.
>>
>>24816050
there are two medals to get at level 10 training for 3 picrites each, so technically there is. i also cant confirm it doesnt go beyond level 10 yet, wont be able to do that until tomorrow.
>>
>>24813907
>grind those 50 skill uses medals
Can that be done on the area 00 puzzles (where the energy cost is zero) or should I be grinding using Oshawott or something else with low energy cost?
>>
>>24816064
Oh yeah that's true. But since that's a one-off bonus, I'll just take my time to reach that level.
>>
>>24816145
they cant be done with the puzzles that require no energy, but you can do the alt world tests instead in that area. theres one that only costs 14.

not that it matters, cause you can do it regardless of energy costs. if you use abilities and then quit the puzzle, it still counts.
>>
>>24816145
Just enter the level, use the skill right away, then immediately retire.
The only ones that cost energy are the bomb skills, but they still work even if you don't have the energy they WOULD have subtracted from your total
>>
>>24816181
Do I need to actually use Auto-Fixer (X) or does the automatic activate at the start count?
>>
>>24816191
You have to use it.
>>
>>24816191
the activation means nothing. what youre looking for is to actually use up the usage number on your pokemon. so for auto fixer x on klefki, you need to actually have it correct something, and it can do so 3 times per puzzle, all three each adding to your 50 uses

not that its not the fixing that matters. for example hyper scan doesnt actually have to fix anything when you use it, it just has to actually be used.
>>
>>24816200
>>24816196
Thanks for the clarifying. Will grinding the automatic effects like slow time (Pikachu's I think) just be by starting and leaving puzzles continually?

Also I read somewhere
>Stage 04-08: Celebi (appears for 1 hour every 20 hours)
Since I missed it today (didnt have enough energy to complete it) it will be back tomorrow?
>>
>>24816191
Depends what the mission is. If you have to "use" it a certain number of times, the start doesn't count.

If you have to use it LESS than X number of times, you don't need it to activate. You don't even need to take an autofix Pokemon.

>I've hit a paywall (I've only unlocked the first 4 areas)
You're honestly better off restarting and beating those 4 first areas again, this time not wasting money on upgrades.
You can get to the end of area 7 with almost enough picrites to unlock area 8 (ignore area 6 for now) if you don't waste them.
>>
Never played Picross and just when i think i get it, im stuck. I got oddish by myself but the next one its just ugh.
How did you guys get the hanv of it?
>>
>>24817665
you memorize the mental math required the more you play it.

post your puzzle if you want a hint btw
>>
>>24817665
It's an acquired skill.
That stupid P-gauge system makes this game a pretty bad choice for complete newcomers, though, since you're so restricted in how many moves you can make.
>>
>>24817716
also part of the problem is the entire game is in free mode (the paywall mechanics require it), whereas the other picross games have a mode that tells you when you make a mistake, which is much more forgiving for newcomers.
>>
>>24793752
>If we're talking ROMs

nobody mentionned Picross NP serie for the snes, it's in jp (like mario2 gb) but whatever once you figure out the menu, it's picross right?

np stands for nintendo power, it was a downloadable serie ; each ep is dedicated a gaming franchise, and there is an episode on pokemon ;)

I've finished everything I possibly can except for Mega Evolutions and challenges that require Pokémon past Area 7 up to Area 7. Waiting until I rack up enough points to move on. So close!

Anyone else find themselves playing out imaginary Picross situations in your head? Happens when I play a puzzle game for too long.
>>
>>24817790
have you played any other picross games?
>>
>>24817806
No, but I now think I should. I have a lot of games on my plate though, so it'll have to wait. Trying to wrap up the Layton series on top of all of the other new games that keep coming out.
>>
>>24817823
do yourself a big favor and buy picross ds on ebay for $10
>>
>>24817827
Will do! How many games are there total?
>>
>>24817835
picross ds is by far the best one ever made, so id start there.
after that, the e series is best. there are 6 on the 3ds eshop. id grab those too.
after that, theres 2 gameboy games, marios picross 1 and 2. theres a super nintendo game called marios super picross, and then there are the JP only nintendo power picross games. all of these older games used to have their puzzles available for download on picross ds but you cant do that anymore.
>>
>>24817846
you forgot picross 3d for the Ds,
a new picross 3d is coming for the 3ds soon
>>
>>24817897
i left that out only because its a different kind of picross. similar, but different.

threre is also colour cross for the ds:

Try and reach as far as Area 11 if you can, since you can nab Keldeo when it pops up and the next mythical isn't until Area 16.

But if you're thinking of putting time into this game, well, you're gonna have to pay up. Unless you're not doing anything for the next year or so.
>>
>>24818423
Ignore area 06 and move on, there is nothing there worth the entry fee.

>>24818565
>year or so
Someone will be able to hack in some picerites before then.
>>
>>24817930
The save is connected to the game, so you need to delete the entire thing and redownload.
Not that much of a hassle, though.
>>
>>24819048

You can increase the Picrites you earn from the daily challenge by unlocking 25 areas in general. By calculations, it's better to unlock the previous areas since they are cheaper.

You already can. But you need an o3DS on firmware 9.2 or below with CFW installed and save data filer. Homebrew users are SoL until Smea updates the homebrew payloads; which could be next week, or next year.
>>
can confirm training caps at level 10. you get 8 for completing it and an additional 2 for doing in in the target time of 2 minutes, for a max of 10 picrites per day.
>>
>stuck at the end of area 7 with 85 picrites, grinding bomb skills to get them to 50 uses

It's advised to skip area 6 for now, right?
>>
>>24821947
honestly, it really makes so little difference. people make a big deal out of it because area 6 has nothing but ice/water types and no mythical pokemon like area 7, but honestly, if youre free to play, its pretty fucking irrelevant. youre going to progress at pretty much the exact same rate regardless of what areas you choose to open first or last.
>>
Where do I even go to do the password stages?
>>
>>24822930
Click the red house to find the password input. After you put in passwords, they appear in specific areas. One each in 3 and 4, two in 5.
>>
>>24823079
Oh thanks. I'm only in area 2 because I used most my currency to unlock team slots.

>>
>>24823589

if you choose area 7, would you then proceed to unlock area 6, or area 8? (for a f2p player)
>>
>>24823894

Look, when you unlock 25 areas (Not go to area 25, but 25 areas) your daily challenge picrite earn reaches the maximum. So, it's technically better to unlock the previous areas as well, since they cost cheaper, than to proceed to the next one.
>>
>>24823897
but isnt there better pkm (in any of those 2 areas 6 or 8) that can help you to catch the "rare" pkm spawns, i tried without any help (cause they didn't have the requirement to be useable in the party), and it's almost impossible (?)
>>
>>24823945

Use the Passwords and there are a few good pokemon to use on bigger stages.
>>
How do I do the 15x15 ones? I've been staring at one for half an hour, made my best guess, and it was all wrong.

Use Blue Force if you're having trouble. At least until you get used to the larger puzzles.
>>
>>24824678

I don't even know what blue force does.

Blue Force gives you a hint, on what lines you can fill boxes, based on the info you have. It makes you pay attention more and focus on those lines.

About the Daily Training Lv 10, after you get both medals for clearing it in 1:40, is there any point to trying to clear it within the time limit daily? I imagine it could get tedious doing the Miiverse trick everyday.
>>
>>24828551
Miiverse trick?
>>
>>24828551
for the medals, no, but you get bonus picrites for clearing it in the training goal of 2 minutes.
>>
>>24828551
Miiverse trick?
>>
>>24828586
>>24828642
Not much of a trick, but bring up Miiverse to save it as a screenshot, bring it up on your computer to solve the puzzle using paint or something, then enter the solution into the game. Saves time.

>>24828612
So you only get the bonus 3 picrites if you can clear the 5 puzzles in 2 mins?
>>
>>24828668
I never thought of that...
>>
>>24828668
the amount you get from training apparently goes up as you unlock areas, so i dont know what the exact amounts are once you max this out. however, i do know the formula for what you get is as follows:

base amount + training level amount + completion time met amount

base amount you get no matter what, training level amount is based on what level you are, and the completion bonus is only given if you do it in the time allotted.
for me, with 7 areas unlocked, i get 5 + 3 + 2, for a total of 10.
