Is Touhou Puppet Dance Performance allowed here? Full translation finally came out not too long ago and the game looks neat, instead of just being a Pokémon reskin they innovated on a lot of things and there is a lot of interesting combinations and "evolutions" to try. I don't really follow Touhou but looking at it just as a Pokémon spin off or something of that matter I've enjoyed it immensely.More than ORAS.

I heard some people in the /v/ thread solved this by using japanese app locale.
>>24757024
That fixed it. Thanks!
>>24757024
What does that mean?
>>24757180
It's a program called App Locale that let's you play Japanese games without having a Japanese computer or something around those lines. Not just for that but it's what you want to use it for. Simple enough, you download it, open it, tell to run that game in Japanese, and it does.
>>24757198

>>24763354
Music is cleaner and not limited to the clunky gba soundfont, the remixes are addictive, and hype as shit like the Final boss
The art is made to be cute, it was made 2 for EVERY single character (Puppet version, Real version) and is definitely better than no art at all.
The graphics are nice and the battle animations are more interesting than the GBA.
The new mechanics that are possible with a standalone game (Reincarnation, EVs distribution, relearn skills anytime), overall feel, and even online battles without using the shit/unstable vba link are great.
I seriously don't know what you are talking about.
>>24771244
Touhou lore is a strong aspect of it, most of the characters will probably look like random girls to you if you didn't played the originals, which is not bad for the gameplay, but is bad for the experience I would say.
>>24771415
>Music is cleaner and not limited to the clunky gba soundfont,
Not him, but sometimes restriction breeds creativity. Pretty much everything else is an improvement on the hack, but I really liked how it made the Touhou remixes sound like they were ripped straight out of a Pokemon game. If you didn't recognize, say, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PC6Kxmd4xo as Nitori's theme, you could easily mistake it for one gen or another's surfing music, and that's not really a feeling you get any more. There are a few nice pieces, like several of the trainer challenge songs, but for the most part it's fairly pedestrian and unadventurous remixes.
>>24756642
I played a couple minutes and it looks very well made.
It feels great to know nothing again, I don't have any idea about typings, movesets, neither where and what I can get stuff.
>>24773348
That soundtrack was one of the best things about Puppet Play. Cerulean City transitioning into Beloved Tomboyish Girl is pure magic.
Too bad one of the most common English ROMs replaced most of those tracks with more generic Touhou remixes.

Oh jeez, I forgot about this game.
I played a partial translation patch in the past; is it possible to install the patch while keeping the old save data?
Would keep playing but i only have a laptop that has difficulty even not turning off by itself so i can't play games that aren't perfectly optimized for more than a few minutes before my machine overheats and turns off.
I saw some other anons sharing the "non perfectly optimized" opinion but of course i'm the only one with the other problem.
>>24775072
Just grab the save data and jam it in the folder for the full translation.
Should i use my PPs right away? do they work like EVs?
>>24776588
You can't take back the ones you use to allocate to your stats. It's probably a better idea to wait and see what you want to do with that particular puppet before you put stuff into its stats. For moves and natures, though, you can use PP however much you want.

That's the thing, I don't get how those items work. I assume it works like Assault Vest, so that means you can only use attacking moves. Anyways, I was wrong. Dragon Amulet is popular on Speed Luna, which is what I was using also.
Just to let you know that held items are NOT consumed after battle in this game. This means that you can abuse rest+chesto berry or the power gems to your heart's content.

I picked Flandre as my favorite puppet, did I do well? Any tips for using PP?Do you name your puppets? I did, except for Flandre.
>>24786514
I haven't played much but I assume its just like Pokemon. Since it looks like you can change your moves or ability at any time with PP, the only thing that's permanent (until reincarnation, which seems to just be a way to breed without dolls having lesbian sex), is for EVs.
Since you picked Flandre from the start, all of her IVs should be A+, so what does she excel in?
If TPDP's Flandre is anything like Touhou Puppet Play 1.8's Flandre, I'd imagine she's a Glass Cannon, very fast and great attack scores but terrible Defense and HP scores. If she is just a sweeper, you'd pumping all of your EVs into her main Attack stat and her Speed Stat.
>>24786481
I'd still contend that it's a step up from 1.8:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdKlWhfsYDs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5HLwSDjQwo (the nod to Cynthia's theme here is great)
It all comes down to taste though so eh.
>>24786514
Happened to me as well. Reimu is basically Gary Oak in this game. As for Flandre's PP, she's offensive so just dump it all in speed and her superior attacking stat.
>>24786579
Reimu IS Gary Oak.
The problem is that Reimu is a bitch now. I'll probably go hybrid flandre because mine has a positive nature in speed, while both atk/sp atk are equal.
>>24786514
Flandre's speed form is rounded and is a good sweeper. Her power form is really strong, but has subpar speed and is made of tissue paper. Up to you.
When you know what you want your puppet to be, dump as much ev's as you want, though these cannot be changed until postgame. You will easily reach 999 pp midgame, so don't be afraid swapping around moves and abilities on the fly.
This is a good info page for all your needs. I'd make sure what kind of puppet you want it to be before you pour ev's into it.

>>24787931
You should choose your favorite girl.
Assuming you don't have a favorite, then I would recommend one of the following.
1.) A powerful wind or steel type, as early game is riddled with pesky nature, dark, and wind types.
2.) A puppet that you can't get until late game, something like Reimu or Shinki would work well.
You can look at http://en.tpdpwiki.net/wiki/List_of_puppets_by_location to determine which puppets can be found how early. I would recommend you avoid really early game puppets like Chen and Nazrin, but almost any puppet can be viable in single player and if your favorite is an early game puppet, by all means pick it.
>>24787931
Depends on a few things, really.
If you consider "hardest to get", then late game high BST girls are good picks. The problem is, most of them suck ass in their early no-style form and have high EXP requirements to get you to 30. If you're going to autistically grind anyways, they would be the best pick, like Sariel, Shinki, Yukari, Yorihime, Toyohime, Kanako or Suwako.
If you want something that'll just help you plow through the beginning-mid game with ease, then you're looking for something that has good coverage and high speed in its base form, which is Aya, Remilia, Flan, Youmu, Futo or Marisa.
Suwako is probably my favorite for balance choice between the two.
Usually the only hurdle at all for people is the opponent Gary Oak-Reimu. Reimu as a normal puppet is only weak against Sound, which is fairly uncommon on "good" girls, and everything else is either neutral/resisted.
You can catch a Benben not too long after your first fight with her though.
>>24787962
>Marisa
>Good coverage
I loved my Marisa, but early game she gets walled hard by certain puppets, for example every nature puppet in the game.
>>24787977
>Metal Needle for the first half of the game

I don't see the problem, senpai.
>>24787874
You just came from the thread in /v/, didn't ya? indeed, after that anon linked this thread there it has become quite active (for /vp/'s standards).
>>24787986
I'm pretty sure Marisa doesn't learn Metal Needle, anon. Her attacks pretty much consist of just Electric and Light, with one Dark attack for slight coverage.
>>24787931
One you can only find lategame.
Best candidate would in that case be Shinki (BST 600 post evolution, highest of anything without drawback abilities period, only available in the VERY LAST AREA before the equivalent to the Elite 4 at a 5% encounter rate). Sariel is also a good candidate (Victory Road equivalent only at a 3% encounter rate, BST 580 post evolution)
>>24787960
Basically the only ones that really suck in single player are Akyuu, Maribel, and Renko. Akyuu is usable if you go Assist (in which case she becomes basically Shedinja and thus can wall some things stone cold), Maribel isn't usable unless you're willing to grab something with a weather-inducing ability, Renko is so far past garbage that it's not even funny.
>>24787962
I ended up picking Raiko for my starter, mostly because I had no idea who any of these girls were (or that I was picking my starter) and just wanted to blow through as fast as possible so I could put my competitive battling skills to the test.I think I might have fallen for Raiko at this point, and most of the things I rely on in regular Pokemon battling like spamming Dragons and Steels or great setup sweepers don't exist. At this point I'm just using whatever is cutest.
>>24788009
Renko has an ability that makes her useful for setting up weather or field effects, but aside from that yeah she's pretty trash.Raiko is pretty cute.
>>24788009
>Raiko
Good taste.
>>24779795
Moody.
She has fucking Moody, the ability that was banned from UBERS in Gen 5 because it completely broke that tier apart to the point that Bibarel could easily pull off 6-0 sweeps, and that was in spite of the Moody users having really shit BSTs and typing in general.
Suwako S is BST 580 and effectively Water/Ground typing, with base 120 special attack and base 115 speed to enable for ridiculous sweeps once Moody has done it's work.
In what fucking universe is that not overpowered as shit
>>24788018
The thing is that in order for that ability to work, she has to live long enough to actually use the weather-inducing move.
Better off just using a Touhou with a weather-inducing ability (i.e. the equivalents to Drizzle/Drought/Sand Stream/Snow Warning), if you're going to bother with weather at all in this game.
>tfw i'm enjoying this more than any PkMn game since Black2

This may put me on until 3rd game, really. Can you play against others?
>>24779795
Where can you find the usage stats?
>>24788035
I can confirm that Suwako S is busted as fuck, probably the best Moody abuser in the game.
Defense Kotohime is also surprisingly good at Moody abusing. Her bulk helps her set up, plus she can trap and use yawn.
>>24788050
>Can you play against others?
Yes.
>>24788050
>Can you play against others?
Yes, but not until you beat a certain trainer after beating this game's version of the Elite 4.
>>24788047
She's pretty useless for weather, yeah, but there isn't a puppet that can automatically set up, say, Trick Room, so she might be able to do that with the help of this game's Focus Sash.
>>24788067
>>24788059
And I can reuse PP to change moves and all kinds of things, right?
Hot damn, this thing is too good.Maybe even better than Pokémon
>>24788057
Kotohime can barely do anything against stuff that walls her though.
>>24788075
Yup. You can relearn any move at any time with PP. However, if you spend PP increasing a Puppet's stats, you can't undo that.
Of course, once you get to post-game, that won't matter much with the way "breeding" in this game works. Once you have a good selection of puppets, getting your first puppet with perfect IVs is fairly easy process.
>>24788083
That's what passive damage is for. You could even run toxic if you were concerned about that.
That said, she does suffer against puppets with recovery moves, which for some reason is every bulky puppet in the game and then some. Still, guaranteed sleep is a powerful thing, especially in a meta that doesn't enforce sleep clause.
>>24788050
Netplay requires dealing with IPs and isn't unlocked until postgame.
Just as a warning, the endgame is really bullshit. Spoilers for that (without any names) and for very VERY good reason. You know how the E4 in the earlier games tended to be really hard? Imagine that, except they DON'T FOCUS ON A SINGLE TYPE, have perfect IVs, have EV investment (note that in regular Pokemon games only Battle Tower/Frontier/Subway/Maison opponents have EVs on their mons), and have generally good movesets. At least there's only 3 of them.
And then the final boss is a bigger cheater than Lance could dream of (her strongest mon has full EV investment in every single stat, which is blatantly impossible without hacking, is the only BST 600 in a game wherein the only things higher than that are the Regigigas and Slaking equivalents, and is LEVEL EIGHTY FIVE whereas if you've overgrinded your team might be poking at the 70s by that point)The big question: How balanced is competitive gameplay compared to regular Pokemon
>>24788083

>>24787875
There is only one question:
Who is the bigger asshole: Gary Oak or Reimu
>>24788141
competitive play is mostly speedy offensive types with the 3 good walls, lots of people just use their favorites
>>24788168
How viable is stall in this game? Are there entry hazards for said stall teams to make the opposing side scream in rage?
>>24788141
I find this post hilarious because I literally swept the final boss's team with Defense Reimu + Invoke Deity.
>The big question: How balanced is competitive gameplay compared to regular PokemonEh. Certain puppets are just too strong, like Power Aya. It's a very offense focused meta, from what I understand. Entry hazards suck because the rapid spin equivalent in this game has a typing that makes it almost unblockable, although this game's stealth rock (which is steel type) can be potent. Some gimmicky strategies like Trick Room, Weather, and Stall can work, but for the most part you're best off just attacking as hard as you can. There are also very few baton passers, the only worthwhile one being Assist Cirno as far as I can tell.
>>24788180
Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock and Sticky Web all exist in this game. But spin blocking doesn't, aside from 2 or 3 puppets that aren't really that great anyway.
>>24788180
The SR equivalent of this game is steel type. Steel is only SE on 3 types, but I'm not sure how it affects viability.
>>24788180
Stall is terrible. Item clause makes it so you can't use leftovers on all your touhous, the stealth rock equivalent isn't as good as in the main games and around 80% of the touhous can learn the rapid spin equivalent so setting up hazards is pretty pointless.
>>24788182
>the only worthwhile one being Assist Cirno
what about Defense Rinnosuke?
>>24788180
stall doesn't really work since the few good walls still have resist holes and can get fucked super easily
>>24788199
I dunno, he just isn't bulky or fast enough to pull off a baton pass set consistently. And I'm pretty sure his ability is bugged or something.
If you do want to use him though, he would probably work best with a bulky Focus Attacker and Duel Screen support. Power Sakuya seems like the best Puppet for him to pass to, being a powerful Focus Attacker with good bulk and access to powerful priority moves and a good attacking type. You could also go with Defense Suika, seeing as she has great all around bulk, high Focus Attack, and a good STAB draining move.
>>24788009
Funmy how the three most useless 2hus are the normalfag ones (they can't fly or use danmaku)
>>24788182
For reference, Power Aya has Skill Link, base 130 speed (only 4 things beat that out, and 3 of those suck ass), 3 moves that take advantage of Skill Link (two for the STABs and one that's Earth type and thus a better Earthquake in her hands), access to the U-turn equivalent (which is dark type and thus murders the normal type equivalent), has the equivalent to Extremespeed if you want to fuck over choice scarf users and the few things that can legit outspeed you, and can basically punch a hole through almost anything.
Weak to wind, steel, and electric, and she has the type coverage to hit all of those for SE anyways. Her only flaws are a mediocre base 105 ATK and the fact that she basically loses all her potency if you hit her with paralysis. In regular Pokemon, she would probably be banned to Ubers.
>>24788180
Stall is so dead that not even Smogon could revive it or consider it viable. There's no type with ridiculous numbers of resists like Steel was in Pokemon to enable easy walling, what few good walls there are in the game still have easily exploitable holes, item clause is enforced so only one mon can get Leftovers, and entry hazard removal is hilariously easy to the point of ridiculousness: the Rapid Spin equivalent is a wind type move so you can't stop it with immunities and is still an attack so you can't stop it with Taunt, and it even has a base power of 50 so it can do something resembling actual damage.
Oh, and if you know you're going up against a stall team, there's a move that you can use to basically make stall teams self-destruct in awe-inspiring fashion: Manifest [Suzaku], which makes it so that for the next 5 turns, any healing that would be done is turned into damage. And it's regular priority, so you can use it before they use Recover and watch them commit suicide before your very eyes.
Stall is so completely unviable and fucked over that it almost feels like it was deliberately planned to be that way.
Would I enjoy this if my knowledge of Touhou is like stage 3 of EoSD and that's it?
>>24788256
Oh, and the Rapid Spin equivalent is a TM with great availability.
>>24788263
You can enjoy it with no knowledge of Touhou at all
>>24788256
I stall fine with Reimu and Iku. Just need to do more lateral stalling and not try to face tank.
>>24788256
>Manifest [Suzaku]
fuuck, that'd be a pretty cool move to have in regular pokemon.
>>24788256
Isn't stall dumb and boring garbage that makes games take forever to finish since you win by basically grinding your opponent into the ground oh so slowly? Isn't making that impossible a good thing for competitive play?
>>24788256
Well the thing with P Aya is that Small Bits fucks her silly. Not to mention Defense Alice is also a pretty good check.
Do they explain how the game works and such in-game, or am I gonna have to read a guide on shit?
>>24785760
Which is a big irony because the artist i the same person that made the original sprites.
>>24788256
How well does Speed Luna work? She seems kinda gimmicky, but fun to use since she basically has Stored Power, Iron Defense and Quiver Dance all in one. Kicked the crap out of the E4 at least.
>>24788296
the game is pokemon, there are also npcs and signs that straight up tell you how things work, except for the eientei bamboo maze
Name a good Sound type.
>>24788327
I really like the sound turtles make when they fuck.
>>24788296
It's basically like Pokemon except for the following.
>Type matchups are mostly different, see http://en.tpdpwiki.net/wiki/Type_Chart
>When you throw a "Pokeball" (called thread in this game) it will play an animation and surround a puppet with this circle if successful. If you knock out the puppet while the effect is active, you catch it.
>Everyone in your party get EXP and PP (which will be explained in a bit) for battles, but those that participate in battle get more EXP and PP.
>Puppets don't automatically learn moves upon level up. Rather, they have to learn them through a system that combines learning moves with EVs, called PP. You spend PP earned in battle to learn new moves or increase stats. You can get as much PP as you want, but there's a limit to how much you can increase stats.
>Every Puppet has a value called "Cost". Cost is a measure of how "Powerful" a puppet is, generally. The only in-game effect Cost has is that it influences certain moves, such as this game's Grass Knot, and high Cost puppets take longer to level up.
>>24788327
Benben.
>>24788343
Oh, I almost forgot.
>TMs in this game can be used as many times as you want, just like Gen V.
>"One Use" Items, such as the berry equivalents and Focus Sash, are restored at the end of every battle.
>Stolen Items are returned at the end of every battle, so you can't steal items but you can't lose items either.
>HMs no longer exist, and are replaced by key items.
>get the boat
Why are there no random encounters at all while boating?
Hell, are there even any trainers in the water?
>>24788363
Theres one
>>24788363
>Hell, are there even any trainers in the water?
There's exactly one trainer in the water, but you probably faced her before you got the boat.Personally I'm glad that there are no water encounters, fighting hoards of tentacool is never fun.
>>24788327
Speed Miko seems pretty similar to speed boost blaziken.
>>24788367
>>24788369
One in the entire game period?
That doesn't even make any sense
>>24788381
Well there's only one 2hu that lives in the water.
>>24788327
Raiko.
Also MikoS
>>24788363
Because water random encounters are dumb, repetitive, and annoying.
Also not really to the latter; there's a single one in Misty Lake but it's a mermaid 2hu and she stays close enough to the land that you can initiate battle with her without even getting the boat anyways.
>>24788168
Note that using favorites is much much more viable here in general; almost everyone is usable in at least some way
So yes, it is more competitive than Pokemon.
Is the translation anon lurking here? Did you know TPDP has a gaiden game about Yuki?
>>24788327
I like Speed Luna. Problem is her stats are Vivillon-tier.
>>24787875
Oh god.
A rival that is more smug than Gary, more of an asshole than Silver, and is so completely a jerk that she doesn't even see you as a proper rival but just someone in her way who has to get beaten down for the audacity of simply existing.
These guys know how Pokemon works better than the actual Pokemon developers at this point
>>24788583
>more smug than Gary
>more of an asshole than Silver
How is that possible
>>24788583
She was a great rival, I guess.
It's just a shame that they had to completely fuck up Reimu's character to do that.
>>24788597
The first thing you see when you boot up the game is a warning that the characters may not be portrayed accurately.
>>24788597
But Reimu is a canon jerkass.
>>24788521
link?
>>24788605
That disclamer is default for EVERYTHING fanmade in touhou.
>>24788606
She's a canon jerkass in a completely different way than the game portrays her.
To put it simply, she feels too cold.
>>24788605
I know, but it's nice when people put in the extra effort to make characters feel as they should, you know?
Just to check, is this actually the mythical good Pokemon fangame, or is that hope still a myth
>>24788636
Kind of, but we'll see what the expansion adds.
>>24788612
I am on phone...on an old model, just go to youtube and search "TPDP gaiden yuki-chan's training", this gaiden game already had the "different expresions" and expansion will add to the main game.
>>24788643
Dammit, change that "and" for a "that".
>>24788636
Level design and obviously graphics are kinda shitty but other than that it's really good, yeah.
>>24788649
>graphics are shitty
I think the game looks just as good as any of the Gen III games. Plus animated battle sprites.
>>24788649
Yeah, level design is pretty confusing at times (worst offenders being the Scarlet Devil Mansion labyrinth and the Victory Road equivalent, although Victory Road being a confusing clusterfuck is to be expected and you get really good things in the dead ends like a Combat Handbook or the skill card that teaches the game's equivalent to Earthquake) and the Bamboo Forest puzzle is a complete nightmare (I stumbled into the secret area by sheer accident trying to get back through normally and I have no idea how the fuck you're supposed to find it normally), but the major routes are straight forward as hell and a lot of annoyances in regular Pokemon are absent (boating on the water has no random encounters or trainers to deal with, wild puppet variety is drastically better than in regular Pokemon, no bullshit strength puzzles, HMs are attached to items rather than moves and outside of the boat are almost never needed)...
Graphics are fine though, nothing to complain about there.
>>24788676
>alt costume
What
>>24788721
You know shinies in regular Pokemon?
Rather than being hilariously rare encounters, here they're just alternate palettes you can buy for 3000$ at the tailor in the Human Village.
You can choose between the default colors, the alternate colors, and an alternate costume (for example, Futo becomes a bird, and Raiko will be with an old-fashioned drum rather than the modern one she usually has)
>>24788721
After a certain section of the game (I believe it's after you finish Eientei, but I could be wrong) a costume shop opens up in the Human Village. There you can buy costumes for your puppets. Every puppet has one alternate coloring and one alternate costume.
>>24788735
What the fuck that's so accessable
How painful is breeding in this anyways, on a scale of 1 (Gen 6 with Destiny Knot) to 10 (Ruby/Sapphire)
>>24788751
it is even easier than gen 6
>>24788751
-8. Reincarnation is so ridiculously easy and fast it makes Gen 6 breeding look unbelievably slow in comparison.
Basically, imagine gen 6 breeding, except instead of running around waiting for them to lay and egg and then running around more for it to hatch, you just press a few buttons and you're done.
There's a Destiny Knot equivalent for IV passing available through a post-game sidequest that you should beeline for immediately.
It's still pretty RNG based and there is a cost, but that's why saving and resetting were invented.
It took me days to get my first completely perfect IV Pokemon in Gen 6, and that was using a blatantly hacked perfect Ditto ported over from Gen 5. It took me about 20 minutes to do the same here, and having that will make future reincarnations even easier.
>>24788751
Perfect IVs are incredibly easy to get and are visible, there are items that let you choose your puppet's nature, and "breeding"It's called reincarnation in this game, and instead of making a new puppet, you basically just reset your old puppet back to level 1, with new IVs.can takes seconds once you have it set up.
>>24788785
>>24788797
Oh my god I think I'm salvating at this.
I thought fangames only had dumb and edgy plots with unlikable characters and horrible game design, not actual improvements on what regular Pokemon games do
Am I dreaming
>>24788802
Well, I mean, Touhou Puppet Dance Performance's plot is pretty dumb, but it's not really bad enough to be offensive in any way, all the characters with one exception are fairly likable, and the game isn't really edgy.
But yeah the gameplay is very solid, the only thing that's missing is post-game content, but the upcoming expansion looks like it'll be adding battle tower so that will really help things out.
>>24788643
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSage1D2kns
Fuck, that's pretty cool. Like a battle factory, but with plot.
>>24788832
I wasn't paying attention to the plot by the end, what was the cause behind the puppets, the demon goddess thing I fought for the final boss?
>>24788872Yeah. Basically she (her name is Shinki, by the way) got really bored and made dueling puppets based off people she knew for fun, then the puppets started to leak out of her world into Gensokyo. When you defeat her at the end of the game, she promises to stop making them, and the population of puppets starts to decrease as everything goes back to normal.
>>24788872
Yeah, it was Shinki's doing.
Her motivation? She wanted more cute things in her world, made the puppets for that reason, and they grew so numerous that they eventually just started popping up in Gensokyo.
Yes, that is the entire reason. If you wanted something edgy, this is not the game for you
>>24788892
I wasn't paying attention because I'm used to fangame plots being dark and edgy bullshit with horrible writing and massive amounts of violence/blood/death, not light-hearted adventures wherein nothing really bad happens and almost everyone is polite and kind.
Probably should have realized something was up after Makai ended up being a bright and pretty place rather than the dark and terrifying place I was being led to think it would end up being.
Goddamnit, why is this fangame so fucking GOOD
>>24788916
Because it's fun and cute.
>>24788947
Just reminder, though, cute things are fine but you might don't want to bring /jp/ or /a/-tier crowd here so be careful.
It's Touhou, after all.
>>24788057
http://gensou-suwako.com/correct/URViewer/URrank.php
>>24789074
>Speed Utsuho is both the most popular puppet, and the highest rated
Well color me surprised.
>Power Aya has the third highest ranking
No surprise there, although I'm surprised that Defense Mamizou, of all puppets, beats her out.
What really surprises me is that number 1 has a has a move that fucks over buffing moves, and number 2 has unaware. Maybe buffing is more potent than I thought?
>>24789159
Def Mami is neat stuff
110/110/70 defenses + 10% damage reduction (slow tempo) + 50% increased FoDef or SpDef makes for one hell of a bulky puppet
Getting sucker punch and knock off coming from 110 FoAtt is pretty cool too.
Come to think of it I should scour Nicovideo to see if there have been any tournaments.
>>24788916
Maybe because the same person that made original hacks worked on this.
Oh my god FutoS is the best thing
It's like Starmie except better in every single way
Please tell me she can learn electric type m
>>24790475
All she gets is what's basically HP Electric. At least you don't have to breed for it though.
>The expansion will add something that is like the battle tower
Touhoumon already has better postgame than fucking XY and ORAS, you can rematch almost everyone.
I plan on trying this out, No experience touhouwise but it looks really fun, just gotta learn all the new types ,weaknesses and strengths

All the newhus are in, the artist made new art for all them (and hecatia is his favorite, seriously, he is obsessed with her).
You can even see all them in the expansion trailer.
>>24790622
You don't really need to know about the characters to play the game. Looking into them will help in type-guessing on sight however.
>>24790673
The two new bunnies looks cute though. The one in the white coat looks nice too.
>>24790611
>plus mima appear as character
oh man, I can't wait
>>24790611
The real question: Can you fight Raiko
>>24790673
Is that one on the right juggling planets?
>>24790673
Wait, I've seen this thread for days not have not paid it any attention.
Are you meant to tell me that whoever made this game is THAT Hecatia guy?
Fuck. I love Hecatia and I love his pictures of hers. I now have an excuse to play this. When does the update comes out?
>>24790777
The Earth, the Moon, and Gensokyo/the Other World
Nice lucky 7's by the way
Someone host for fun times testing a character nobody else will ever use.
>>24790779
Later this month, but translation anon says it will fuck up the English patch, most likely they have to start from zero.
>>24790822
Wait, really? How, uh...how does she do that?
>>24788916
Yeah the cool thing about Touhou is that all the grimdark shit happens off screen.

>It's like Starmie except better in every single way
It's incredible how much Fire coverage helps.
>>24790883
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Hecatia_Lapislazuli
>Hecatia's ability allows her to exist on Earth, the Moon, and the Spirit World all at once.
They aren't the actual Earth, Moon, and Spirit World. They switch where her bodies exist.
>>24790779
You couldn't tell by looking the art? is his style, just in chibi mode.
That was easy
>>24790923
Non-chibi art of the same character.
>>24790857
Damn, that's a shame. Will it even fuck up the saves?
>>24790923
It's very obvious now that I've realized it but it escaped my mind somehow before.
>>24790938
Tranlastion anon says that no, if it fuck it, he will "push his arm though his throat in frustration".
>>24790938
I heard there will be something will be saved
But it will change whole games so probably not much
>>24790920
I see, so they're more symbolic of the ability to have multiple bodies to swap between in those places?
>>24790899
Wait it gets fucking Fire Blast ahahahahahahaha holy shit why are you not in actual Pokemon FutoS
>>24790965
Sort of. I'd say they're more symbolic of the three places she rules over. Earth's Hell, the Moon's Hell, and the Spirit World's Hell.
Although she also switches the orbs when she swaps bodies, so they probably represent that as well.
>>24790611
how do you rematch people in TPDP? Is there a key item like the vs seeker you get eventually? I am going to the SDM and I would like to get more exp for my freshly caught puppets
>>24791081
Postgame, talks to the characters again (i am not sure but i think the rematches reset when you beat the E3 again)
Is there a Shedinja equivalent in this game? Since items are recovered at the end of battles, seems like a viable option.
>>24791120
Assist Akyuu
>>24756642
What's the best 2humon to play on DS or GBA?
Got a DSTWO but I'm still having my computer at the shop until Wednesday.
>>24791120
this girl in Assist style.
>nobody ever netplays
So how important is being hyper-competitive in this
Do people play in the usual Smogon style or is it just "use your favorite waifus"
>>24791172
In singleplayer? You can play nearly any puppet and get away with it. Just make sure you have a diverse team, otherwise you'll get your shit stomped every once in a while.
In multiplayer? Probably, but the meta here is so underdeveloped that it doesn't matter much.
>>24791188
Nah, even the multiplayer is just "use your favorites waifus". Being hypercompetitive just means people won't want to play against you as much in the future, and with a few exceptions basically everyone is about even in strength.
Pic related, an unstoppable monster
>>24791213
That's a weird sex position.
Is it in the Kama Sutra?
>>24791172
odds are your favorite waifu is either speedy, glass cannon with high attack or is slow with good defense and high attack and is perfectly viable
>>24791223
no moron, sukuna is just too short (is a inchling after all)
>>24791213
and yes, is a good revenge killer just for start
When can I change puppet styles? Just started today, and I'm wondering what it does.
>>24791274
Doesn't change graphics for most puppets
Adds stat and abilities
>>24756642
not technically, at least until this board finally becomes /mon/
that said, mods are often permenantly asleep and when they aren't theyre apathy, so sure. I'll allow it.
>>24791274
lvl 30.
>>24791286
>so sure. I'll allow it.
you should said thatwithout a admin/mod-trip
>>24791303
>shouldn't
fug, I messed up
>>24791225
Even the ones you would expect to be shit still are perfectly fine: Daiyousei-S, for an example, has an ability that makes resists not have any effect on her and gets access to Quiver Dance. Some touhous may have a shitty style, but usually the other one will be perfectly fine and viable.
It's somehow more balanced and fun than actual competitive Pokemon
>>24791331
>more balanced and fun
>stall is completely unviable
Stop making shit up
>>24791363
What is fun about stalling?
>>24791381
The ability to slowly grind your opponents into the dust by being really good at predicting and crushing them.
The sheer amount of "fuck you" put into this to stop stall is so much I think it was probably intentional
>>24791274
It's basically this game's equivalent of evolution. You can do it when a puppet reaches Lv 30.
The puppet can become one of 2 out of 4 styles: Speed, Power, Defense, and Assist. The style chosen determines what stats are raised, can give you a new ability to use, and can also change a puppet's type.
While each puppet currently has only 2 options out of the 4 styles, the expansion coming at the end of the month will give you all four options.
Unlike evolution, this can be reversed by reincarnation, which sets your puppet back to Lv 1 and reverts its style to Normal, allowing you to raise it again in the other/a new style. How to do reincarnation and what is retained is unknown to me since I haven't reached that point in the game yet.
>>24791392
>Slowly
This is why it was avoided, most of the people in netplay would get bored and ragequit a battle that takes so long
>Reimu's fight on route 5
>get wiped every time
>wild puppets to weak to grind on
Fuck it, I'm going full Dead of Night hax on this thing.
>>24791406
Oh my god the team member options
That's literally more than double the number currently available (excluding normal)
The meta will be completely different
>>24791432
>people actually had trouble on the route 5 fight
I mean yeah she's strong but not that strong, at least in my experience. Probably was overleveled though, it's pretty easy to get over leveled in this.
>>24791432
Suika's my main problem, she's got a super effective attack for each of my puppets. I've recently got Kokoro though, if I level her up enough I should be able to beat her.
>>24791445
Reimu is pretty tough, if only because she has really good puppets on her team so early on.
>>24791406
>reincarnation
you are capable to change nature (the color card) and IV randomly unless you get the items to otherwise, conserve the IV that you want, inheritance some IV from the "parent" that you want pass and other shit that I don't remember now
and the PP/EV restart to 0
>>24791392
>slow
>fun
>not wanting the waifus to beat each other up quickly so you can have another battle rather than stay in the same one for ages
The death of stall is a very GOOD thing for competitive, since "experts" won't have the option to basically sit around and wait for you to die from entry hazards/toxic.
Walls are perfectly viable in this game, stalling as a strategy isn't. And that's a good thing.
>>24788343
>When you throw a "Pokeball" (called thread in this game) it will play an animation and surround a puppet with this circle if successful. If you knock out the puppet while the effect is active, you catch it.
so like wobbling from Pokemon Rumble?
Where is Cirno? I can find a few of the Circle 9 members at Route 5, but is she actually at the Misty Lake? I don't think I have access to it yet and I don't think she's in the Forest either.
So if I don't learn new attacks I can't learn other skills? Because that doesn't sound right.
>>24791544
That's exactly where she is.
>>24756642
I can play pokemon emulated on my phone. And even before that it was always on a handheld system.
Is there an app version of this out there somewhere? Part of pokemon's main draw for me is its mobility.
RPGs are mainly about abnegation. Having a free-time waster/chillout and grind game that I can't just pull out of my pocket and play on a moment's notice while I'm waiting in line or part of a conversation but only slightly invested in it sort of defeats the purpose.
>>24791225
>your favorite is 4x weak to Sneaky Steel
>also 4x weak to what's basically Scizor
>half of her good attacks are suicide options
God dammit. At least she has Tailwind I guess, but I didn't want to use Defense form.
>>24791557
what are you talking about? you gain access to attacks at certain levels, then you spend PP to actually learn those attacks.
>>24791544
She's a rare encounter in Misty lake.
She's more common in a cave on an island in Misty Lake, but you need surf to reach it.
>>24791127
Anyone? There are so many touhoumon hacks, I can't tell which to play.
>>24791613
>worrying about stealth trap when smash spin exists
>implying that Scizor in a maid outfit is anywhere near as dangerous as SukunaD
But yeah KanakoD is much better because a double weakness to steel is begging for you to be murdered alive in this
>>24791649
Touhoumon 1.8 I think is a good starting point since that one has the different type chart from regular Pokemon.
>>24791676
I could tell, even in the main game. I ended up weak to almost everything. Cirno demolished me, Reimu demolished me, it's miserable. She's a really bad starter, which is a shame.
>>24791698
Yeah, most of the "high stats" puppets are shitty in early game if you pick one for your starter.
I am so glad I picked Raiko since she gave no shits about any of the early game pitfalls and just beat them all up with sound and electric moves.
Got the Master Ball equivalent, what do I reserve it for
>>24791736
you're waifu
>>24791736
Dunno, but I got another later on.
>>24791717
you mean that choosing Shinki as a starter is bad idea?
>>24791717
Yeah, the slow experience gain sucks. At least Luna and Sanae picked up the slack.
>>24791738
No, you pick your waifu as the starter. Fate threads are kind of irrelevant since there aren't any legendaries to catch and spamming oath threads will do the trick on basically anything even at full health, so...yeah, use them on waifu.
>>24791777
Not really (no one is a bad idea in the long run outside of Renko/Maribel, and Shinki is otherwise unavailable until it's too late to matter for in-game), but she'll take a good chunk more exp than anyone else to reach level 30 and stance change. Exp requirements for leveling up are higher for stronger puppets than weaker ones, balancing them out for ingame purposes.
>>24791801
What exactly makes Renko and Maribel suck so much?
>>24791833
BST of 350. For comparison, a Pokemon considered by everyone to be absolute unusable trash, Luvdisc, has a BST of 330. One of Maribel's stances has an ability that's so powerful that she can be viable if you build around it (double offenses and defenses as long as any weather condition is up), but Renko is just legit trash of the highest order that would make Unown and Luvdisc look good in comparison (at least Unown can do something resembling actual damage with a STAB HP Psychic and has immunity to ground, and Luvdisc is at least decently fast and learns enough annoying moves that it can make your opponent rage before it dies a horrible death)
>>24791868
>Renko sucks more than fucking unown and luvdisc
Whoa, is she a joke character?
>>24756642
Is this one of the romhacks where all the touhous have like 14 branched evolutions and also includes those terrible vocaloid fights?
>>24791894
Renko has an ability that makes her ideal for setting up things like Trick Room and that Healing Fucking field, but aside from that yeah.
There are shit puppets in this game, but most of them have at least one thing going on.
>>24791913
Stand alone game and they only "evolve" once, but you chose what they "evolve" into.
>>24791894
For Renko-S, imagine Castform, except instead of having your type change to that of the weather, you just make weather last a few turns longer, an effect you can replicate by just sending something in with a weather-inducing ability holding the respective weather-duration increasing rock. Also note that Castform has base 70 stats everywhere, which beats Renko out everywhere but HP (tied) and speed (loses by 5 points, not like base 75 is worth shit anyways).
Renko-A has exactly one thing going for her, the fact that she raises the duration of terrain moves. So she's marginally useful if you want to run a Trick Room team at least?

Nice. Flandre a best.
When the expansion comes out, how do you update? Will it fuck up the translation?
>>24791971
Scarlet Devil Mansion, kind of early game, you should be in your mid 30s~ by that point.
>>24791996
Nobody knows and yes.
>>24791996
Expresions make everythng better.
>>24791996
Nobody knows and yes to the point where they'll probably have to start from scratch.
Someone start hosting net battles please.
>>24791996
absolutely, there is tons of changes even in the early game so lots of things will need to be translated
>>24791981
>>24792015
Am I correct in seeing that you can walk with your puppets like HGSS in these pics?
If this is known already sorry, I haven't exactly been keeping up with the game, besides playing it.
>>24792048
Yeah, the expansion will add that, also, the puppet will climb on your back when you are on the bycicle and ride the biat with you.
>>24792048
YUP
And they'll even ride the bike and boat when you're using those
>Bump limit
>on a touhou thread in fucking /vp/
So this is the power of touhoumon.
>>24791563
>>24791627
Thanks a lot.
>>24791801
>Starter is waifu
Indeed. Still need to find the rest of my Touhoumon 1.8 team. Only have Momiji and Chen, the rest being Meiling, Cirno, and Suika. The last was an HM slave... though that doesn't seem to be an issue here, so i'll have to find someone.
>>24792127
Cirno and Meiling can be found at Misty Lake, so you'll have them pretty quickly.
I am too used to /v/'s insane speed, how long an over bump limit thread can survive here?
>>24792227
days
so everyone can easily take its time to make comp teams and then start hosting games before this dies
>>24792227
Just discuss things while you can here.
Don't do any stupid shit.
>>24792243
How to make a competitive team
Step 1: pick your six favorite touhous
Step 2: Get them to have perfect IVs via reincarnation
Step 3: Use EVs wisely
Step 4: Slap good items on them
Step 5: Battle with your waifus
Who here already defeated the Red of touhoumon?
>>24792264
I just wanna meme around with this thing.
>>24792271
Swept her entire team with a level 70 Defense Reimu.
>>24792271
Why is Letty the equivalent of Red?
>>24792271
She doesn't look tough at all
>>24792271
>this random girl
>anywhere near as badass as RED
>>24792271
Someone list the people I can rematch postgame, since none of my shit comes close to her fucking lvl 95.
>>24792290
She is deep inside a cave that only opens in the postgame and is the stronger no rematch 2hu and the only one besides the champion that has a full team (Seiga doesn't count because her team is the same six explosion zombie girls)
>>24792317
Well, I meant more like why did they choose Letty to be Red.
>>24792327
Reddo
Rettyno idea
>>24792295
>>24792327
According to ZUN (touhou's creator), Letty is much more stronger than what she shows as a stage 1 boss, he said that, if she wanted, she could cause an incident (the main games plot device) by herself and that she let the MC's win in PCB.
>>24792295
>>24792292
He just didn't give her the right expression.
Advent puppet when?
>>24792310
Pretty much all the major 2hus can be rebattle in the postgame: Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, Yuugi, Utsugu, Yuuka, Sukuna...
Does anyone know where to find Vat of Poison?
>>24792444
Forest of Magic extra area that you get to by surf. It's practically at the end of a complex maze so you have your work cut out.
>>24791649
>Touhoumon purple
Emerald map. Emerald music. Gameplay is great because it was made by someone who knew what they were doing. Challenging without being bullshit. Battle Frontier.
>Touhoumon 1.8 enhanced
Kanto map. Custom 2hu music. My personal first touhoumon, and I enjoyed it immensely. However, shard evolutions are post E4, which limits your options by quite a bit. Also has Johto, but from what I hear it steps into shitty romhack territory.
>Touhoumon unnamed
Essentially the above with modifications. More puppet diversity and shard evolutions are unlocked. I think music is standard FR/LG though.
You really can't go wrong here. Have fun anon.
Just to check, with Strategist, does the boost apply to moves with a BP of 60 exactly?
>>24792586
less than or equal to 60
>>24792495
If you cheat the National Dex, you can do the Shard Evolutions, so If you the person does play this one, its probably worth considering just so you can evolve them in the forms as you please. Pretty sure standard "National Dex" gameshark codes work.
Probably right about Johto, I mean it wasn't an official part of Fire Red, but its all still there, but it was mostly there (for me anyway) to push the game further and eventually fight Red (which him and 12 or so lackeys) tried to push you all the way to 100 (or 90+ in levels to beat).
It was still fun though.
No! i don't want this thread to die!
>>24792833
Then host some matches.
>>24792845
I still haven't beat the game.
Defense Reimu with Invoke Deity, Economist and Life charm is pretty strong
But I guess Suzaku shits on her
P Kokoro with Protean or D Kokoro with Moody?
>fight mokou for the first time
>she's min maxed has fire-type knock off
>all my puppets had items
>>24793142
I'm trying to decide on this myself
>>24793142
P too slow, just go with moody
>>24793184
removing items and allocating EVs worked. Damn though the fights in this game can get pretty scary.
Also if anyone cares, what would you chose if you had to between Power Mima and Power Yuyuko? I'm actually surprised Yuyuko is where she is in the usage rankings (mima is close by, but I kinda get her)
What's the best starter?
>>24793241
a rare one like flandre or one you can only find at the end game
>>24793241
An useful one, though most of them are at the beginning of the game, like Chen, that has one of the best types in the game and you get her super early
Where in the world does Medicine run off to after the events at the geyser control center? It threw me back on youkai mountain and I have no idea where to go.
>>24793191
Thanks, she just breezed through Mokou pretty hard.
>>24793239
Power Mima gets magic bounce, which is pretty damn good.
>>24793326
go west of the human village, then immediately down. Just follow the routes and you should be fine.
>>24793326
left of human village and then down
there was a path cutoff by two fairies that's open now
goes to route 7? sunflower garden
>>24793351
>>24793355
Thanks
>>24792079
Meanwhile, thread on /v/ got shitposted with yurifag and deleted.
>>24793385
And just some minutes ago, another one was deleted, it had a bad start (op was a bait), but it was developing so well.
quick question, where I can find mugetsu and gengetsu puppets?
>>24793609
Near the garden of the sun
Someone host a match please
>>24793847
I would, but I'm still working on getting my 2hus up to speed
>>24792079
>/jp/ is too slow and filled with waifufags
>/v/ threads are hit or miss but usually filled with shitposting
>have to come to /vp/ of all places for a comfy 2hu thread
>>24794050
I don't know what do you mean by comfy.
Even if you want to be really on-topic, Touhou has lore discussion and issues like Steam, thcrap, Saijee, Kadokawa, etc.
I'm inside Youkai Mountain just after the Moriya Shrine. How much longer until I reach the Palace of the Earth Spirits? I want to add a Koishi to my team.
Which Touhoumon should I play first?
>>24794203
TPDP is by far the best one in my opinion.
>>24794170
The Underground is where you're supposed to go right after Youkai Mountain. Make sure to get the map/Fly item from Chen at Mayohiga. You can find her by heading right at the rest stop you encounter while heading down the right side of the mountain.
where is the new thread coming up
>>24794225
when this dies.
>>24794206
TPDP?
>>24794265
The game this tread is for. Search the thread for a mediafire link, that's the one everyone is playing.
Anyone netplay yet?
>>24794538
>>24794538
go to the /v/ thread or create a new thread in here
