Before /vp/ was made, Pokémon took up a huge chunk of space on /v/. It was before /vg/ was made, so they couldn't throw it in a single general, so they just made a board to contain any discussion on the games, anime, TCG, etc.
If they did it today it probably would just have a general on /vg/, but /vp/ is still here because it got lucky enough to be made first.

Are you a moron? Pokemon is the second biggest video game franchise in the world and there are so many different aspects of it up for discussion. The games, the characters, the pokemon themselves, competetive play, spin off games, artwork and artists etc....
Pokemon is utterly gigantic and would easily take up considerably more space on a board than any other type of video game. Additionally it's jap centric and fits into 4chan culture easily.

I've been on /vp/ for three(?) years now so I feel a sort of kinship with this board. Even during the dry seasons I feel a need to come here to report furries and sage shitposts; it's like looking after an old friend.
Plus my romhack is "progressing" and discussions here keep those wheels spinning.

Mostly boredom. I started coming here around the time XY was getting ready to release so I could watch for leaks and such and I ended up just sticking around. I like some of the art that gets posted from time to time, like reading theories/speculation when I'm in the mood, and also seeing real-time reactions when corocoro leaks, plus the fact that I usually don't check any other news site for said leaks or news until I see it mentioned on here. Basically it's just a lazy portal to the pokemon world without requiring me to go actually *looking* for stuff on my own.
I come for the reaction pictures, Coro-Coro leaks and general shit postery.

I browse it, sure. I come in here every so often because Pokemon taught me a great deal on how to read. Pokemon helped shape my life with promises of celebration after celebration. And you know what? I'm tired of the franchise I grew up with because of those who make it and a lot of weird, autistic fucks that come with it. I don't have Megaman. Megaman 2 was the first game I ever played and those yellow monkies killed that too. Now there's a power creep in this game which has devolved this board into screeching apes that seek only to destroy. This franchises changes people just like Sonic's into the most venomous human beings on the planet.
I hate everything I ever worked for in Pokemon, and I come here to see what people like/hate about this franchise now. It turns out, we all fucking hate how we're getting screwed because GameFreak just has to rush. If Nintendo had this fucking franchise for itself it might have actually progressed further than Megas and actually done good balancing. But who am I kidding? There's nothing for POkemon. Not this roleplay crap, not the datamining, not even Z can get me hyped up because I know that /vp/ is all I'm going to see and hear along with probably nothing different to begin with.

If /vp/ didn't exist, other game boards would be cluttered with different pokemon-related gaming general threads due to spin-offs and sideline games that gain a lot of attention. Can't put them all together because it make it difficult and make the threads a mess due to the difference of these games while trying to discuss them and what-not. I'm shall no boards want to deal with that. Especially /v/ or /vg/ since they are already cluttered enough as it is. Some stuff also wouldn't have a place to go too since pokemon isn't just a single game like the Ashime, tcg, toys, etc. I know /a/ really makes the anime the butt of the joke but people still legit watching it telling by Anime General. Same logic goes with the pokemon toys in /toy/.
Sorry that Pokemon got the special treatment because it actually meets the requirements of getting it's own board and have the people who like it to back up those facts.
