>start a new game
>having tons of fun catching Pokemon and fiuring out team members
>get to around 5/6 badge
>get really bored and drop it for a while only to restart the cycle
Am I the only one this happens to?
Uh, I get bored around 5/6 minutes after starting a new game, so you're not that bad.

No. Around 5-7 badge is the exact time when most early mons start getting really weak to be used, obligating most of players to switch them for the sake of having less tiring battles at the cost of extra grinding.
I do that too. Happened when I replayed W2, right after I beat Skyla. I should probably start playing it again, now that I think about it. Or else I'll be unsatisfied forever...

Yup.
Only when I play Hoenn

I have that problem when I am playing ORAS , also I never liked the shitty hoenn regional dex
>>24753605
going from the sleek XY dex to Oras dex was disgusting

This is pretty much the reason why I never catch early route typical shitmons, like Rattata or Pidgey clones. Chances are they'll fall off really hard later on and I'll have to catch someone else to fill the spot and grind hard.
>Plan out a team before I start a new game
>Deliberately select a few end-game mons so I have an excuse to keep going
sorta
once I start playing pokemon, it kicks in like a drug and I can't stop, however once I skip it for a day or two I'll end up not playing it for another month or so and then restart the cycle
Its because most pokemon games have terrible pacing
The only game i can stand to replay these days is black and white
