Why is physical salamence so much more common? Special mence has access to heat wave, hits 2 opponents with flying stab and doesnt fear intimidate

Physical is actually least common. Mixed is by far the most common right now, followed by special. I personally don't see the appeal of special, as you miss out on the firepower of an aerilate Double-Edge, but anyway, there's the facts.

Mixed Salamence is by far the most common and the best set. You can still catch people off guard by using Hyper Voice then Double-Edge when they try to Wide Guard. The other move depends of what you need, but I like Draco Meteor the most.
Mixed Mence is generally the best set to run, with hyper voice to bypass intimidate and burns.
but phsyical makes more sense than pure special because of Dragon Dance for boosting, +1 Aerilate Double Edge or Return with that 145 ATK is STUPID damage.

I only run physical. The raw power of it allows me to nuke problematic shit like Kangaskhan and live most retaliations from their partners.
Flying/ground coverage is excellent in VGC, the only problem is fucking Thundurus.
