Well, I just hit the ending and now the credits are happening.That was really fucking underwhelming. The player getting all sad and "wuh I don't wanna go" felt pretty forced (since quite frankly I'm feeling ready to put this game down and play something else) and the whole bait-and-switch with the partner leaving wasn't all that interesting either. Why exactly did the partner have to leave again? Hadn't he accepted Dark Matter as a part of himself? Sure, some of Dark Matter was from Mew's negativity, but accepting it shouldn't have made him vanish like that. He didn't travel through time, he was reincarnated. If accepting Dark Matter made him disappear despite the fact that he was a completely different Pokemon now, doesn't that mean that everyone should have disappeared because they all accepted it?
The whole story from Dark Matter onwards made no fucking sense.

I'd have liked a chapter aftergetting turned to stone where you played as Ampharos instead of the whole voidlands thing. Gather pokemon willing to fight the cause and beat down Nuzleaf for the luminous water and free everyone else. The rest of the story could be unchanged since it'd end up at the same conclusion, plus we never really get to see Ampharos in action beyond him being strong enough to make Entei stand down.

I think the point of the purification cave deal wasto see if the MC valued his partner enough. Even with the alleged possibility of dark matter returning he was willing to take on the burden of defeating it again if necessary. The willingness to take on that burden showed the desire to have their friend back strongly enough for that wish to come true.

Gonna be honest,the ending is probably the first PMD ending to not make me cry like a bitch. I was too bewildered by the idea of Treecko actually being a reincarnation of Mew to take it seriously, and it wasn't until after lots of hard thinking that I found the ending somewhat sad, but not sad enough to cry about. If anything, the idea that someone who's been through hell with you just suddenly dissapearing is kind of depressing, but not as depressing as watching yourself go back home/getting erased from time and having those around you mourn for your loss.
