Breloom looks like a number of things that shouldnt go together while the other one is literally just a cartoonish bug and yet people praise it like it's the second coming of Christ.

Define "back." Do you mean post-Johto? If so, yes. Ash tends to call in the big guns from past teams when it comes time for the league tournament. It sat out the Best Wishes tournament, but it did get to shine for a bit in the semi-finals of Sinnoh. While a good choice, Darkrai was too much for Heracross, because legendaries are OP in the anime. It's episode 189 of the DP saga (655 overall). You can find the dub on YouTube and the sub is on bitTorrent under the 145-191 batch found on the PocketMonstersFansubs site.

I personally think Gen 2 has some of the most lethargic and awkwardly bland designs (Chikorita, Sentret, Typhlosion, Quagsire, Skiploom, Stantler, etc.), but I adored Heracross from the first time I saw it and I assume many others did too. There's just something about its design. Like, the balance of consistency and variety in its shape, being a bug who looks like it can fight like a human and yet not an obvious tacky martial artist insect, its friendly/energetic smile, that horn which is great for Megahorning, etc.
