Well, I guarantee Water alone is pretty boring for the wide variety of mons of this same type in-game. However, I can't deny that Fire is way more useful overall.

Fire's a handy type and usually the Fire starter is one of the only good members of it in the entire region.
There are always plenty of good Grass- and Water-types around the region, but there's usually only like 2-3 Fire types in one specific area. And some games don't even have that much.Looking at you DP.
Meanwhile, Water-types usually end up being semi-mandatory for Surf/Waterfall/Dive/Whirlpool/etc., so obviously you'll need one of those too.
Grass is objectively the worst starter type even in the games where it's decent.And that's why they make up for it by giving it the best bros.
