A human being is by default normal, yes? Because we do not have any specialized or elemental affiliation. Then we have trained human warriors, who would become fighting type. But they're still human. Normal/Fighting type.
The only place this makes sense is the abundance of Normal/Flying types instead of pure Flying types.
Most birds are normal/flying because while they're airborne creatures, they're still based on normal birds with no other design elements that would indicate another type. This is compared to things like Tornadus, which is pure flying because it's just based on air, rather than a specific animal.

Going by that logic most pokemon should have a secondary type. Ninetales should be fire/normal because its based on fox and so on
