condition > rarity.
any rare card that is in shit condition isn't worth shit. a 1st edition base set shadowless holo charizard goes from about 5k to about 5 bucks.
this is assuming best condition is out of the pack and straight into a sleeve/protector, while worst condition is used with scuff marks and peeling.
however not all cards are still worth much. individual cards themselves can be bought pretty cheap. the real value is in the unopened booster packs/boxes from like 15 years ago.
here's an alakazam i opened recently from a base set 2 booster. you can literally buy it for 7 dollars on ebay but i wasted 80 bucks because i'm autistic.

not many people know this, but the base set had 3 different prints.
the 1st edition with a shadowless border.
a 2nd print with a shadowless border but no 1st edition stamp.
and the unlimited print, with a shadow on the border and no 1st edition stamp.
a few other minor differences include the font weight, extra text at the bottom, etc.
the value of each print is in the order i listed.
