You can do it, I did it at maybe 14 ish. Bring a truant wand and the Vulpix you can recruit. Use SE moves with an alliance and make your Vulpix keep it confused and then have it spam Baby doll eyes to lower it's attack down. It's a bitch but doable.

Chespin gets pin missile and rollout, both of which are absurd if you get multiple hits on them. Plus defense curl fairly early on with pain split/synthesis and bulk up later on. He's a goddamn little monster when you pack a few accuracy boosts behind him.

There are just loads and loads of little things that make the game feel far more polished than Sky. For example, if there's an item right next to your partner, he'll take the one extra step to grab it instead of just walking passed it.
But the gem system is, by far, the most brilliant new addition to the game. Gems now spawn in the dungeon like items and give effects that last until the end of the dungeon. The catch is that they explode if you don't grab them fast enough. These things really make dungeons feel more dynamic, since you'll end up with different buffs every time you crawl through one. (they're not just stat buffs, either. They do all sorts of weird shit like letting you attack twice in one turn or giving you the effects of Synchronize)

I got Cyndaquil, and while it's not too bad, I'm lvl 18 and I still haven't learned a new move by leveling up (19 is supposed to be Flame Wheel). If you don't like Cyndaquil's starting set up of Ember, Quick Attack, Smokescreen, and Double Kick, I guess stay away. I will say though that Double Kick and the Barrage emera with either the confusion or sleep causing emeras is pretty neat.
So just to be clear on how this works regarding evolution and Pokemon a availability.
If I chose Squirtle and Turtwig, can I later on still get a new set of those two Pokemon or whatever two Pokemon you choose are the only ones of that line you can get?
Does that mean I can get a Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise and the Squirtle that I received in the beginning? I just want to be sure because if I can only have 1 out of the species line then I'll evolve eventually but if there are multiple of the species I'd rather just stay at stage 1 and have the other 3 as their own.
