Does a list exist that sorts held items by usage? I just want to know the popularity of all the items.

Not as far as I know, but if you're good with Excel Macros you might be able to use data from http://www.smogon.com/stats/2015-10/moveset/ and just multiply the raw count of each Pokémon, and multiply it by the % holding each item, then sum it up for every Pokémon.

Nope. I don't really see the usage of it either.
You can see it for individual pokémon though, both for Showdown and actual VGC, which is really all that matters.

black sludge is common for defensive poison types and toxic orb is also pretty common among guts/poison heal pokemon.
