Yes, they've existed since the game was released in Japan. You save your data on them at the arcade. They just weren't called "amiibo" before.
They should include an Amiibo-enabled card in every trading card booster pack.

This is literally no different than having a slip of paper in the box with a cheat code that had to be manually entered that unlocks the dark Mewtwo earlier than playing through the game.
They just called it "amiibo" so obsessed aspies who otherwise would never have brought this game will be lining up overnight in front of Nintedo World so they can have a "complete amiibo collection".

Amiibo Cards are extremely limited in what they can store and definitely aren't the same/won't be used the same way, considering you can't put money into an amiibo
