I do it intentionally to annoy.
The way we pronounce it in the US puts too much emphasis on the "ay" sound anyway.
Amusingly enough, the anime pronounced it Pokèmon for years and that's how I pronounce it as a result. Anything else sounds weird with an English accent, especially Pokaymon.
