Why has Pokemon not progressed at all in 20 years?

The formula is still the same, the worlds are the same size, Saffron in RBY is barely any smaller and less populous than the largest cities in XY, the battle AI is just as dumb as they've always been, the competitive aspect has never had a proper attempt at balancing, the storylines remain completely pointless jokes and literally always just a recycling of a bad guy team trying to take over.

Could you imagine a Pokemon game that played like a good RPG, you know with an open world, places to explore, freedom, side quests, a good narrative. A game that actually used today's technology, you know 3D graphics, with worlds that look like they've had effort put into them? Remember Pokemon Colosseum? The main character wasn't another 10 year old in starter town, and the hubs actually had some life in them? Sure it still suffered from a lot of flaws that previous Pokemon games had, but it at least tried to be progressive?

You know why we'll never get another? Why bother doing something that requires so much time and effort when you churn out a rehash of the last game, and it will sell extremely well? Do you think Pokemon has a chance of progressing again, if sales start to dip?

If it is not broke, do not attempt to fix it.

People like the early 90s jrpg formula. I suspect this is the only thing GF is capable of doing. All we can hope for is they eventually perfect it because this is all pokemon is ever going to be for better or worse.
>>
>>24612172
>The main character wasn't another 10 year old in starter town
The protagonists have never been 10.

>you know 3D graphics
Are you retarded?

>and the hubs actually had some life in them
Ah yes, non moving NPCs, the best "life".

>open world
Fuck off retard

>this is what GFIDF thinks

>Why has Pokemon not progressed at all in 20 years?
It has

>Saffron in RBY is barely any smaller and less populous than the largest cities in XY
Yeah, Saffron is just the size of Lumiose. OH WAIT.

> the battle AI is just as dumb as they've always been
Battle AI changes depending on trainers you face
> the competitive aspect has never had a proper attempt at balancing
Not true
>literally always just a recycling of a bad guy team trying to take over.
Every story needs antagonists
>you know 3D graphics
Yeah it has that
>Remember Pokemon Colosseum? The main character wasn't another 10 year old in starter town, and the hubs actually had some life in them?
The protagonists have been older than 10 for quite a while
>>
>People are deluded enough to disagree with the fact that Pokemon has stagnated against its' best interest to remain fresh and exciting as its' audience and the gaming culture as a whole progresses
>People actually believe the Pokemon formula is a-ok and could use no improvements, let alone become longer more in-depth games that take advantage of hardware fare more powerful than the Gameboy in terms of bare-bone mechanics

nice bait, retard

kek

Progressing towards a dump you mean. Games have gotten a lot worse since the PS2/GC era, with only a few worthwhile gems in between.

Anyone that says the formula isnt stale as shit right now needs to see reality.
>>
>>24613278
Lol grow up dude
>>
>>24613285
You can say that about any other game franchise from the 90s. Street Fighter is just better graphics.
>>
>>24612172
Much like Dragon Quest which Pokemon was inspired by, it comes down to the fact that Japanese people enjoy playing the same game over and over.

>>24613329
Nah. For example, FF now is just shit instead of stale.
>>
>>24613338
>Japanese people
Like we have room to talk, Pokemon is still huge here and we have Callodooty still around.
>>
We can fanboy until the cows come home, but OP is kinda right. I'm not saying I want the Bethesda Pokemon experience, but I would love to play in a vibrant immersive world with a believable ecosystem of mons. I'd love to play a pokemon that isn't linear for once, one that could reinvigorate a sense of adventure in the franchise. But sadly, GF has too many sacred cows they will never kill simply because it's easier not to.
>>
>>24612172
>The formula is still the same

If you want a different formula, that's what the spin-offs are for

Sonic changes its entire formula every fucking game, and the results speak for themselves

Unfortunately GF is truly just a shit tier dev that just struck the motherland of IPs all those years ago. They haven't been able to do anything else since then and are too afraid their shekels might stop flowing in if they try anything else with the games. You can reuse your core ideas, but keep making more exciting games (see Atlus), but nope, let's just lazier and lazier as we go.
>>
Pokemon's audience is children, not people in their 20s who have been playing with since they were children
>>
>>24613278

Do you even know how nostalgia works?

People forget that bad things exist and only remember good things.
>>
>>24615090
Pokemons market is way bigger than just children.
>>
>NINTENDO
>>
>>24615122
Not that its nostalgia.
There's been a rise in story heavy games while the actual gameplay goes on the back burner. On top of that many games are shipped incomplete or broken to meet deadlines.

Then there's the fact that there's so little variety nowadays.
Video games are going down the shitter.
>>
>>24615145
What does Nintendo have to do with anything? If anything they've probably done more to help the franchise than GF has.
>>
>>24615212
>There's been a rise in story heavy games

Ah, so you haven't played a game since 2005-2006.

Games today are increasingly less story-focused, and more socially/multiplayer-oriented.
>>
>>24612172
Autists don't like change.
>>
>>24615245
>Games today are increasingly less story-focused, and more socially/multiplayer-oriented.
Not every game is a Nintendo game anon. Anyway take a look at the games that have been in the spotlight recently the majority of them are story focused such as Until Dawn, The Order, The Last of Us, you get the picture.
Episodic games are also being released more often branching even into series like Minecraft.

Multiplayer games are being released too but not as much as these story driven games. Especially when it comes to non nintendo consoles.
>>
>>24612172
>The formula is still the same
Nothing wrong with that as long as they're refining the formula. Which Game Freak isn't doing that well but it works very well for other series like Dragon Quest.

>the worlds are the same size, Saffron in RBY is barely any smaller and less populous than the largest cities in XY
Contrary to every AAA game being made today, you don't need a giant empty open world in every single game. As long as there are things to do in the world (which whether there's enough varies game to game) a compact world works just fine.

>the battle AI is dumb
True.

>competitive
Game Freak doesn't care about competitive. It'd be nice to buff weaker Pokémon like Farfetch'd but they've never focused on it.

>Could you imagine a Pokemon game that played like a good RPG, you know with an open world, places to explore, freedom, side quests, a good narrative. A game that actually used today's technology, you know 3D graphics, with worlds that look like they've had effort put into them?

Okay you're just a shitposter, or worse one of those people who sincerely want Pokémon to be Skyrim. Fuck off.
>>
>>24615090
thats nintendo's thinking in general and look where it got them in recent times. basically they keep aiming at kids and now ironically they only have their diehard fans left, a bunch of old dudes. wake up and smell the coffee already.
