Both of them look atrocious, mostly their torsos. Heatran's looks like a turd, Volcanion's like a rock from my mum's garden. Their general concepts are great, but designers fucked up really bad.

I doubt it. The thing is, it has not been released yet, so it will likely be released when everything for the next installment comes out.
That aside, it's not particularly super strong offensively, has no boosting moves and has no reliable recovery. Easily A-rank in the current OU meta with those things aside.

I think they've taken an evolution in design in Gen 6. Xerneas and Yveltal in particular look like some of the most natural legendary Pokemon in a long time, and i'm digging the strange aesthetic they've used for Zygarde.

I believe the Genies and the feedback they've received over them could be the reason why they'be backed off of a minor trio for gen 6. They're the most polarizing group of Pokemon to date.

OP's image is a bit misleading, since it's fanart from before we knew what the body actually looked like. The hind legs are actually on a separate segment of body behind the main one, and it has a tail too. It looks more like an armored wolf or something as opposed to red Gigalith.
