Despite being one of the three main starter types, Grass has always received the short end of the stick.
>having the worst properties in the type chart
>no playable Grass-type in Sm4sh
>no playable Grass-type in Pokken Tournament
>no Grass-type Pokémon is being dickrided by TPC while Charizard (Fire-type) and Greninja (Water-type) are

Why does everyone seem to have an irrational bias against this type? I just don't get it.

Kids hate it. Don't worry OP, Sceptile will always be the best starter in my heart.

Because kids would rather choose a fire lizard over a walking onion or a ninja frog over a chipmunk in a hat.

Being a grassfag is suffering. I hope we finally get a 'cool' grass starter in gen 7.

I agree but they at least sort of made an effort to fix that with Sceptile in the anime.
>>

If they had named it Plant-type from Day 1 like they should have instead of the retardedly specific "Grass"-type, maybe it would be cooler.

Because they don't look so overnatural as Fire type, and they impress more easily. Kids and teenagers search exactly that.

As grown-ups we don't search concepts that impress us, but concepts we can get comfortable with, but also fit in this fantasy concept. Something more relaxing.

That, at least is my theory.
I would have preferred Chesnaught for Sm4sh too.

i honestly think its an age thing. young me was huge on flashy fire and electric types like arcanine and zapdos. as ive gotten older, ive veered more and more toward grass and bug types.
>>
>>24577718
Holy shit! Me too! When I was younger and I played Pokémon Emerald for the first time, I chose Blaziken, but many years later, I chose Sceptile on another Emerald playthrough, and ever since its Mega was revealed and it gained Dragon-typing, it became my favorite Pokémon. You're right. It does have to do with age.

Greninja's not awful but I'm kind of in the same boat as that anon, waterfag from the beginning but I felt the other two starters looked more appealing (their final forms at least, Chespin doesn't get good until it fully evolves). Still picked Greninja because if I could weather past Piplup I can definitely do Greninja, but I'll enjoy my second Kalos playthrough where I pick a non-water starter.

Yeah, but Ivysaur in that game was greatly hindered by the Pokémon Trainer's horrible mechanics, so you couldn't fully enjoy playing as her (the Ivysaur in Brawl was female).

I blame the Ashnime honestly, Piplup was way too annoying in there. I hear Osha was annoying too but I stopped watching when I caught wind of how bad Unova was going to be (and I don't trust the anime general for a second with their claims that Kalos is any better, if Ash wins something I might go back and watch it but not until then).

Empoleon's not bad though.

>forcedly popular

Perhaps the funniest meme of the past months. Greninja became one of the most popular instantly after its reveal. Even before Smash (which wasn't a GF marketing push, btw), he was elected best Gen VI pokemon pretty much everywhere.

Dorkly polls, IGN polls, Youtube asks, hell, even the Serebii polls all held it as victor. It's still hilarious how the seemingly one-sided starter poll in Serebii that was so unabashedly in Fennekin's favor suddenly went 60% Greninja as soon as it was revealed.

Greninja was literally the most natural case of popularity we've ever had in the Pokemon series.

I didn't even watch that much DP, I think my breaking point was when they replaced the dub cast and it just wound down from there, I might put on Pokémon when I was getting ready for school, BW was just when I stopped entirely. Team Rocket seemed cool in the little of BW I did watch, at least.
>>
>>24578142
>given an overpowered Hidden Ability while Chesnaught and Delphox get jack shit
i can't argue this, although i also can't understand GF's mindset regarding balances
>shoehorned into Sm4sh
that was just Sakurai's instincts based on seeing Greninja's concept art
>now given its own mary sue fusion form that's said to be as strong as a mega, if not stronger
i can't really say anything about this since there's currently no new game coming out
>>
>>24577053
Grass was originally picked by noobs who wanted an easy win against the first 3 gyms in Red and Blue, and it just kinda stuck. Grass is for noobs, common knowledge really. Charmander was hard mode unless you went confusion or mankey strats, and Squirtle was neutral.
>>
>>24578179
Are you serious? Grass is one of the most difficult types to use in-game due to its type-properties.

Yeah, i simply hate how much GF Keeps sucking the dicks of Pokemon like Talonflame, Klefki, Xerneas, Yveltal, Meowstic (M), Aegislash and the likes. When will they stop sucking them off?

Gamefreak is just absolutely shit at balancing. Chesnaught does an absolutely great job at what it's supposed to do, by the way. It's only Delphox who got shafted.

>shoehorned into Sm4sh

That wasn't GF's fault. The whole Smash dev team agreed that out of the possible Gen VI choices, Greninja was the best fit for the game. If their tastes were similar to yours, then you most likely would've seen your favorite in the game.

>now given its own mary sue fusion form that's said to be as strong as a mega, if not stronger

Yes. This was 2 years AFTER it became insanely popular. By this time it's more of a "Let's give the people what they want" instead of a "Let's push this shit and hope it sticks".

You're just pushing it as a Scapegoat in hopes that you'll appear as a martyr for the sheer fact that you chose differently.
>>
>>24578193
Way to jump straight to conclusions. Not once did I mention Sceptile in the original post.

I read your original post, and you're just trying to justify Grass being a "noob type" by analyzing Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur's performance in the first three gyms of the game. It's a flawed argument. This is what it sounds like:
>Fire is the noob-type in Pokémon because I downloaded Torchic for Pokémon X and steam-rolled through the entire game with Mega Blaziken!
See? I can do it, too.

You're clearly an underagefag. I'm talking about how things were in the 90's, and why grass type has the "noob" reputation. It started because grass was the type people picked to easily run through the first half of Red and Blue, by which point you have other mons to deal with the latter half.

Try to be a less obvious hoennbaby.

It's the second best in gameplay and the best in terms of stages and character balancing (as in every character is fun and viable at low-to-mid levels).

They just need a bit more quality control on the costumes, no shit like ninja Squirtle that isn't even based on anything in the series.

>>
Love me some Torterra and Chesnaught. Shame GF hates Grass as much as Bug and Psychic.

I never thought it was possible for one Pokemon to render several types invalid.
>>
>>24578303
The thing is that Misty and Brock could both be fucking hard as shit depending on your starter, due to how few other options there were. The best non-starter mons against Brock were Pokemon you'd never think to bother grinding against him without a guide and your options against Misty were also fairly limited (all four of the SE mons you could get against her had trouble tanking hits and had to be grossly overleveled to have evolved by then). Ivysaur just walks over both of those roadblocks with no trouble.

It mostly stops mattering after that, since Dugtrio beats the shit out of Surge (and the NPCs specifically tell you this) and you've got loads of options for every gym leader after that.
>>
>>24577577
To be fair, Gen IV all starters were pretty good. Torterra had a fairly unique typing as did Empoleon.

Without the mega and speedboost, Blaziken is an ugly fire chicken shitmon.
