Why are you powering up so much? Just wait to catch a stronger one. As you level up the max CP you see will increase. If you're powering up Pokemon that you'll easily be able to replace a few days from now, you're just wasting candy, dust, and time.

Okay, I need you guys to explain the cp curve thing to me. I was reading through this guide: http://imgur.com/gallery/iQNiY and it confused the hell out of me.
There's a part where it says that if you have two Pokemon and one has higher cp while being lower on the curve, you should evolve that one because it's already more powerful while still having more potential to grow, so you want the curve to be low in this case. I get that. But right in the beginning where it's comparing the Pidgey and Pidgeotto, it says that you should evolve the Pidgey because it's higher on the curve. Why? Wasn't I supposed to be looking for growth potential? Now I don't really understand if I want the cp curve to be high or low.

Instinct are far and away the underdogs at my town. Two of them teamed up to knock over the gym closest to my apartment and managed to hold it for almost an hour under attack, but there's just not enough of them to get the prestige up fast enough.

Pidgeot, at every level, has a maximum CP cap. The amount of CP your Pidgeot has is more like a percentage of the maximum it can have. The pidgey would have a higher one because it already has a higher percentage of its maximum CP.
