If you'd actually watch the episodes and consider context, then no it isn't forced at all.
Ash is the only trainer Alain considers worthy of facing off against him since unlike any other (besides Siebold Steven and Malva, who are all Elite Four/Champion) no one has put up a decent fight against him. Ash actually pushed Alain to a corner as well as the fact Ash and Greninja have some power similar to Mega Evolution that Alain is really interested in.

Anyway, it's worth to note that not only the Wulfric scene was replaced. The sequence where Perfect Zygarde appeared and ascended into the cloud-piercing beam of light is also replaced by this new animation, meaning they decided to go into more detail on how that ends up happening.

Ash vs Alan being the final (but really, just it being a thing at all) pretty much guarantees that all of Alan's Pokémon will be defeated and it'll come down to Greninja vs Charizard. And the obvious setup since the past two Ash vs Alan battles has been of Greninja gradually getting stronger than Charizard, meaning he should now be able to defeat him since the synchro has been perfected.
The only way I can see this not ending with Ash's overall league victory is through TF intervention before the battle can end.
So, have May and Drew fucked yet? I haven't watched since they left to Johto together.
I don't get why they're so scared of letting Ash win the league. I mean, he still has to fight the Elite Four and Champion afterwards anyways. He could always lose to them.
