I havnt played Pokemon in about 7 years, and I really wanna get back into it, but being a poor fag I don't wanna have to buy a 3DS cus moneys pretty tight atm.

The best you'd be able to do is a DS emulator with 4 or 5th gen games (X/Y are 6th gen)

One thing I wad never really able to figure out is the Fighting and Dark types
What exactly makes specific pokemon fighting or dark? Unlike other types it's not some kind of energy or a material - but instead they are based on specific set of skills. So the Fighting types are characterized by their fighting skills and yet there are pokemon who can learn the same skills and yet they aren't considered Fighting, not to mention that all pokemon are technically "fighters " since the whole game is about them fighting with each other.
This also applies to the Dark type to a lesser extent.
So what is the answer here?

Fighting = skill, martial arts, justice
Dark = underhanded, scary, thug tactics

Fighting types usually are martial arts related, be those actual existing martial arts or nonexistant shit like lucario's aura control
Dark types usually have characteristics of someone using dirty tactics or intimidation
