The idea just comes from the desire to "speedrun" the game and see how well you can do it. It also is just cool to see what stuff is efficient for some monsters but not for others. You could also see some crazy unconventional builds eventually pop up which is also cool.
I'm just surprised that there isn't more tracking and logging in general really. Games with far worse rng are speedrun (by autists) and they have recorded records and stuff, but a game like monster hunter, that seems almost designed to be about efficiency at the highest level of hunting, doesn't track anything comprehensively.
Even with random spawns, fluctuation in monster hp and other crap, I bet you'd see world record times average out per quest and actually be pretty stable after a while

It's actually been buffed thanks to its moveset changes, and has more variety to its weapon selection now than back in P3rd. In P3rd, you only needed the Zinogre axe and sharpness +1 and you had the best option.
The best fire option is unavailable right now, but taking the Qurupeco line all the way up to the Agnaktor axe is the best fire filler, and it ends with a Power Phial with decent sharpness in +1.
Best thunder axe is, similarly, unavailable right now but taking Zinogre to Nether Excellion is a very good filler option.
Taking Zinogre's line up to Stygian Vanagloria gives you the best Dragon option, this basically means you'll be making the Zinogre axe twice. Your runner up for dragon is La Conclusion, and in certain circumstances (a lot of stamina slashing in big openings) it actually wins out. Still, go for Vanagloria, take La Conclusion only when you definitely know the monster is going to be toppled constantly (Insect Glaive with a mount addiction)
Ice is tied behind RNG, so please look forward to waiting on a Worn Axe drop from an ancientshard in order to make the Kushala Daora Switch Axe.
The Chameleos Switch Axe is a very good all purpose axe with poison, good sharpness and a power phial. You can go down this line from the Bird Wyvern path.
Water's best option is the Ceadeed Axe, but due to what Ceadeus materials are locked behind, and where they come into the picture for actual progression, the runner up and filler is the Dah'ren Mohran axe.

Because you need plenty of a monster's materials in order to build equipment. Time is money.
Plus, the longer you take, statistically speaking, the more chances the monster has to hit you.
That makes for more healing items and materials you need and more accidental wombo combo carts you might take. That's money lost too.
I think there are degrees of 'sub par' weapons you CAN take (140 SNS damage vs 161 SNS damage) but there's absolutely no reason to bring blatantly rank-inappropriate gear into different difficulties. Then you're just a liability.

I would say making one for each elemental weakness is smart. I'd suggest any blast swaxes for general purpose (C.Fatalis is the best one), Chameleos' is also nice if you're going up against Teo or Kushala; Rajang is also weak to poison I think but you'd probably be better off with an Ice swaxe. Molten Tiggy's swaxe is also fun to fuck around with since it caps with buttloads of white and you can make some interesting sets around it.
As for which elemental ones you might want to go for I'd say. Rath for Fire (though G rank silver isn't available yet), Ceadeus for Water, Kushala for Ice, Old Fatalis for Thunder (again, not available yet. Lagi is also available and Elemental phials are better now in comparison to Power phials), Styggy for Dragon.

The Nerscylla HBG line looks like a sniper rifle and it's made for it too. It's excellent throughout high rank and early G-rank. It has a crazy 40% affinity with high rank parts and loads 4 pierce 2s with 2 gem slots. If you get some critical eye on this thing, you can hit a monster like 6 times with a single hit, critting for most of them. It's hilarious and a lot of fun.

Okay, same question. Why do you need to get those monster materials fast? After building new equipment you're going to do what? Hunt monsters. Which is what you were doing before getting the new equipment. If you complete a quest you will hunt more monsters. If you fail a quest you will hunt more monsters.

Crit guns with pierce are pretty fun. I like diamond crest with challenger+2. That base 30% affinity goes up to 50% when the monster enrages. I wish I could get brutality too.

No, you need to add them to your friends list in order to easily find them, which then lets you just join their gathering hall whenever.

I just finished the Shagaru Magala quest and watched the "ending". I've been neglecting the gathering hall quests to work on the caravan ones. I know there's far more to do obviously but just out of curiosity, how much of a percentage of completion would I have reached in terms of quests?Did all quests from 1-5 star on caravan and currently HR3.

Is the Akantor C. Blade worth it? I have sharpness+1 so it's 864 raw damage with 20% affinity, but only green sharpness. It also has impact phial.

I'm at the Rathalos hammer upgrade point where I can go silver or azure. I can make azure now, but silver shouldn't be to hard to get mats for.
Should I wait for silver or is azure a good one in its own right?
Without looking I think azure has way more blue and about 200 more element, but silver has around 100-150 more raw.

Better materials = more efficient monster slaying. I mean, the game is called Monster Hunter so of course the game is all about hunting monsters.
I personally don't like fighting certain monsters but need their armor/weapons for certain skills or elements. Since I don't like fighting them, I want to get my project done as quickly as possible so I can enjoyably battle monsters I do like facing.
I think monster hunter is all about unique projects. Yeah, Cera Symmetry is objectively the best GS in the game with it's damage and sharpness. However, what's to stop you from making an Uragaan or Dalamadur sword? I mean they're not THAT much inferior. Even the Fatalis blade has purp sharpness and 1488 damage compared to Cera's 1536.
That's the point I was trying to make in my other post. Rhetorically questioning, how much inferior is the Fatalis to the Cera blade?
There's plenty of wiggle room in Huntan. Find a new way to play and pursue it. That's what keeps me hunting. That and helping other hunters online is fun too.
Finally finished Belobog's Scythe, dat large chunk of natural purple and good poison element
Now I just need to use it to kill G-rank Kushala a few times and make Chernobog's Scythe, and then use that to farm for my endgame armor set

My set gives me Honed Blade, Razor sharp, Guard+2 and artillery novice with 1 slot weapons and most good weapons have 1 or more slot anyway.
