I haven't gotten very far, so I'm not sure, but people keep implying Solas is really important to the plot, so I don't know if that would make his romance better or if it's unaffected.

Stories, characters, etc., "crafted" to be realistic and appeal for the audience. Not to force some agenda, no matter how good this agenda is. Video games is not a folklore fables that was used to pass free from man to man in form of telling stories. It's a commercial product, and people want something more or less realistic, not a world where shitton of races magically forgot what racism is.
Story about how racism\sexism\etc bad won't sell. Good story will sell. Story that solely relies on "we are so against racism, racism is so bad" is not a good story.
tl;dr: it's all about monies.
Just because few thousands liberal-oriented tumbrinas is think that it's okay to create fictions without racism\sexism\etc, doesn't change the fact that rest of the world(like, 99%) is still dealing with those issues on daily basis. agenda just means that you did what you did purposefully to do just that.
maybe not all fiction has an agenda, but all of it does something, all fiction is written from some perspective, it's just a question of how aware the writers are of what their own perspective and its implications are.
when people talk about this, they just mean that writers should ask temselves why they wrote something the way they did more often.
there's a lot of writers who do have an agenda, say, gaider and bw in general always say they want to be progressive. it's just that they don't have a full enough awareness to be trully progressive. if they thought deeper about what they're writing, they would've been aware of certain implications of their writing, and could've changed it if they wished.
for example, gaider said he didn't realize how offensive the portrail of trans women in dao and da2 would be to people, if he thought about it more carefully, he would've realized that without having to be told, and with that realization make an informed decision whether to write them the way they were written, or change the script.

There is a reason for Sera to exist. She is our first real city elf companion. Zevran was a crow first, suffered abuse, yes, but was trained to be an assassin. He was educated and fed.
Sera was left for the flies. We also know how bad she had it. Tevinter /mages/ abducting people, a haunted orphanage, women getting raped by nobles. No wonder she doesn't remember the blight. Her life was shaped by misery&violence, death on her door was monday.
She is the true alienage's child, a living reminder to players and, duh duh, Solas. That's what he created.

So is there any way for your quarters in Skyhold to be fixed up like the rest of the castle? I've already done Adamant fortress and the ball, so all the scaffolding is gone from outside and the judgement hall, but my quarters still have torn up rugs and floorboards lying around, not to mention there's still things under sheets and scaffolding in the tower part.
