Akane was a waste of a survivor given how they did nothing with her all game.
Souda was needed due to how they wrote Chapter 4 with the elevator breaking, and he'd likely be the most useful among them after awakening (maybe bar Hinata's potential bullshit talents), but again he didn't develop much, and was more set up as the cowardly joke character, as some flat mash-up of Fukawa and Hiro.
Sonia could have had some neat stuff done with her, but ended up just sort of a plain, friendly girl that could make perverse jokes, with her royalty seemingly being an afterthought or joke material here and there.
Fuyuhiko was solid, though, from a standpoint of character growth. From mourning Peko's sacrifice, Mahiru's death, and trying to make amends to Hiyoko and consoling Akane, dude was probably the most well-written survivor in DR2, as far as I am concerned.

I read DR IF a couple days ago and I have to say that made me really, really like Ikusuba's character and relation with Makoto.
Her love for him made me warm inside, even when it was a simple as "he smiled at me and made me feel as part of the school" and when Junko said that Ikusuba only looked at the camera on one photo because Makoto was the one taking it. That simple things makes me so happy. I am a sucker for Makoto as well.
It's a shame that all Ikusuba's doujins are Makoto been bullied by Junko to be with jam it in on Ikusuba. Can I have some vanilla love for once?

Same here, while I like both, I kind of prefer Mukuro over Kirigiri paired with Makoto. It may be because I'm a sucker for unrequited relationship and socially awkward characters, but they look really cute each other.
Other than that, Kirigiri tend to feel flat for me at times (maybe because she is supposed to be the "cool beauty" trope and her FTE doesn't seem fulfilling for me), while Mukuro comes out as cute and socially awkward...it's a shame that IF just counts as fanfic since it kind of change my impression on Mukuro.

Personally I prefer Kirigiri as Naegi's pairing. They actually went through the killing game together, with ups and downs between their relationship. In the end, they learned to trust each other and there's a clear progression between their relationship, even if it's not necessarily romantic.

I think it's a difference in how they're presented, though. Monaka is presented as an antagonistic like character right at the start. To have cute Chihiro act all timid and them all of a sudden reveal himself to be a bad guy might be hard to take seriously.

Monokuma wasn't really established as a character outside of his cute appearance at that point, though. So for him it works. Not sure about the kids because I haven't played AE yet personally, but it's probably the same thing. What I'm saying is that Chihiro establishes himself as a character, something that's completely opposite to what the mastermind would act like so for him to suddenly switch gears like that would seem a little forced to me.
