Scanlines are best when they're not noticed. Not with these weird guys who want them to stand out more than the game itself.

Let's discuss how Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is one of the hardest games to write an emulator for ever. Totally boned the PCSX2 devs and is buggy on Dolphin.

I wonder if Dolphin devs not getting the half screen bug could offer some clue to PCSX2 devs on how to fix it? But probably not since they're different consoles and the way the game works on PS2 may be very different from how it works on GCN.
>>
>>78898170
How many fps you are getting with Baldurs Gate on Dolphin and with what CPU/GPU/resolution ?
>>
>>78898170
GC/Wii dont use GCN.
>>
>>78898260
It totally varies wildly depending on how many enemies or other stuff is on the screen. It can be anywhere from 60 at the title screen to 9.

But then the VPS is basically always at 60 except when memory card saving or loading

CPU: i5 4440
GPU: Intel HD 4600 (ha ha very funny guys)
2x resolution.
>>
>>78898476
Oh and as the pics indicated, OGL is much better FPS-wise than D3D
>>
>>78898476
I think 24 the Game on PCSX2 may be even slower and its recognised as a bug.
>>
>>78898476
Back to the future, Tales of monkey Island and all off Telltele games are also super slow.
>>
>>78898476
Do you have any Intel specific graphical bugs in this game ?
>>
>>78897251
Wow, someone used my OC

>>78897740
>>78897960
But it has scanlines, you just can't notice them because i took the picture about 10 inches away from the screen
>>
>>78898939
Not that I know of but shadows look a bit wrong, like stencil-style shadows rather than more typical ones, but it could just be an "artistic choice". Also I'm using RachelB's Intelfix build so if there would be the typical colored dots error on D3D I'm not getting it due to that.
>>
>>78898764
>>78898880
Shadow Hearts 1 for PS2 is also another game that on HW mode is slow for some reason even on a PC that can run it fine in SW mode. I don't quite understand what causes these kinds of errors. Oh but for Shadow Hearts it's only in the field, not in battle or in FMVs.
>>
>>78899424
Fullscreen effects tends to do that sometimes like underwater in ape escape 2 or underwater in REC:VX

Do you guys think it's worth it to get an i7 over an i5 for PS2/GC/Wii emulation?
>>
>>78900637
No, emulators rely far, far more on single-threaded performance. All an i7 would do is get you hyperthreading which is next to useless.

Could be mildly useful in software mode with PCSX2

Anyone have some kind of image guide of setting up dolphin for xenoblade?

I've read the thread and wiki. Applied the FPS patch as well as custom textures and it's fully stable. But I was wondering if there was anything else i could do to optimize the game.

Or to optimize dolphin in general for pure quality, only just found out about DSP LLE and feel stupid for not using it earlier.

Well if you're stupid like me you'll sit there at the "Press any button" screen spamming "A" which if you set the classic controller normally is the "back" button aka you can't get past the starting screen without pressing the ACTUAL "B" button.
Other than that embarrassing note, don't be surprised if you get fps when it's your first time doing some things. The first time you see that flashy move in combat? Yeah it might drop some frames. After that it'll basically remember it since you emulated once before and you'll have no problems. Uh... 4x native is pretty sweet, recommend it. Anti-Aliasing is a pretty big slow down unless your machine is gud. OGL is usually better
Other than that, not really much to say.

Nestopia UE

News - September 1, 2014

1.46 is out.
The main highlight is that the unix/cross-platform build has been 98% rewritten.
The changes made in this release cycle should make everything much more
maintainable, and enable me or anyone else to add frontend features more easily.

Plans going forward:
The cross-platform release will be brought up to parity with the legacy Windows release.
The only thing left to do at this point is implementing the exotic input devices. That
will be a focus for the next release cycle.
The libretro release will continue to be a rolling release.
The legacy Windows release is still being maintained for the time being, but
it will be discontinued as soon as the new cross-platform build is capable of
replacing it.
The core is going to receive more focus in the future as well.

The DS was easy to make games for, and very cheap. It also sould 150+ million units. There's an INCREDIBLE amount of poorly made shovelware on it, much more than any console to date, much more so than on the Wii; this inflates the Library so much, as a result the DS has over 6000 games but half of those are simply garbage.

Sooo to know how your computer will actually fair, do the following

the switch the OGL or d3d depending on which you were using before and repeat the first two steps

May I ask how does Fast Forward works on Retroarch? It seems to be tied with VSync. I can't get any core to go past 100fps.

the faster your pc is the faster fast forward is

What are good temps? CPU and motherboard are at 45~ for me. Graphics card is at 53.
>>
>>78927660
Seems dumb since RA can't use analog input for navigation.
Looks cool though.
>>
>>78927793
No, you don't seem to understand.

I can't get any core to go past 100fps at all. Everything is locked at 100fps when I remove the frame limit. From Mednafen PSX, bSNES, to Nestopia. Nothing goes past 100fps. And if I can get 100fps on Mednafen PSX, there's no reason why Nestopia shouldn't go way past 100fps.

A while back I was messing with my settings and I forced Vsync on the GPU and suddenly, Fast Forward wouldn't work anymore on Retroarch. So it's definitely tied to VSync.

Everyone will switch back to rgui after the novelty factor wears off.

>>78926468
Running it in OGL twice didn't change much, and it ran pretty poorly in D3D. The major issue is the sound, the slight frame drop isn't too jarring but the sound gets real annoying.

>>78926428

How so? You just control the cursor going left right up and down. It'd make selecting cores much easier.
>>
>>78928097
i guess RA needs to callibrate to your system

1. run retroarch but don't load any game.
2. go to the video options menu
3. disable fullscreen
4. and enable the vsync option but disable hard gpu vsync.
5. enable fullscreen
6. let it run until the frame deviation (the %) gets to the lowest value and press x (or whatever you mapped the A button to) to save the frame rate.
7. toggle vsync off
8. restart retroarch
>>
>>78928531
I know, but it kinda reminds me of that Metro GUI for Windows 8.1
>>
>>78927945
I'd consider that to be in the acceptable range, though if I had the money I would try adding a case fan or two to see if that would bring those temps down some more.

>>78928097
Maybe there's a bug with how RA reports FPS when it gets really high? I have no idea, since I don't use fast forward at all.

>>78928232
You also might want to try reseating your heatsink fan with a new application of thermal grease.

If you don't care for the developers in a FOSS project you end up with shit like the PCSX-R or FreeDO codebase. 1.1 has a lot of shit for the users, the menu/settings refactoring is probably the only thing SP is doing to help coders.
>or is it just SP going all NIH over maisters code?
It's not "muh nih", maister coded the menu stuff well but it was inflexible and only accounted for RGUI. Also, the settings code was, afaik, pretty much coupled with the menu driver code which led to setting-code duplication in lakka and in other projects.

>>78929643
Assuming you haven't overclocked and are using the stock heatsink fan, there is no reason for your temps to be that high unless you live in a place like Texas with no air-conditioning. So yeah, try reseating it with a new application of thermal compound. A pea sized glob in the center is all you need.

>>
>>78931383

That was about the fucking Wii version, dumbass. The Wii hardly has any resources for extra features like that.
>>
>>78931336
Hard to say at this point. The tests on TASvideos were ran using now-older versions of both emulators. The version used to test Nestopia in particular was the ancient as fuck 1.40 "final" version released by the original dev before he disappeared. Lots of improvements have been made to it since then. puNES has also had improvements.

One thing puNES definitely does not have over Nestopia is libretro integration. So no shader support outside the couple it has baked-in, for starters. Compatibility-wise, it may have slightly better mapper support, but I don't know if anyone has tested thoroughly on that front.
>>
>>78931482
Odin Sphere, huh?
I've been wanting to check that one out since I played Dragon's crown.
You think I'll be able to play it at a full 30/60 fps with no graphical bothers?

Also this is less related to your answer, but what about DesMuMe?
>>
>>78922051
I've played Okami and Kingdom Hearts, all on full 60fps, at 1.5x internal res, on a similar Laptop CPU, i3 380M, it was @2.53GHz though, but you do have a better GPU than what I did.

A lot of games will be very playable. You just need to try configurations and different builds depending on the game.

You might get some frame drops in more hectic fights. I had a core2duo that ran Odin Sphere at 44ish fps, so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get 60.

Also Desmume is fine on even low end machines unless you go with the version that can up resolution and then up rez insanely
>>
>>78931829
>>78932138
Also you need to make sure your laptop is on performance settings or whatever to get the most power out of it. But I'd be scared about those temps. Playing games for too long could cause problems, so I'd try to get the temps down

PAL TVs support 60hz since the early 90ies, most game devs have simply been too lazy to include a 60hz mode.
>>
>>78933696
Well it's not just Hz, but also resolution. PAL is 576i compared to 480i, so they'd either have to decrease that, or update everything to cope with more bandwidth.
