>I think the first step toward naval forces is those extended Missions gaijin is promising. You know, where the mission can last hours with people coming and leaving.

If that's whats required in order for us few dedicated naval fags to have our dream near-autist levels of WWII naval gunnery and gameplay well then I'm all for it.

Now that I think about it, Arcade naval might be more so something like Battlestations Duel mode where you pit a certain class of ship against each other and duke it out for points and control of a map I suppose.

Unrealistic but it would make it fun and less time consuming for others as well.

Destroyer vs. Destroyer, Cruiser vs. Cruiser all those made for some good fun chaotic rounds in BSP

About 8 US Battleships including the Missouri.

Then a bunch more US ships and others-

I wonder if we are going to be able to name our ships.

On the kill feed and player list will it show

player (Queen Elizabeth-class)

or player H.M.S. Warspite (Queen Elizabeth-class)

Obviously more of a curiosity with Battleships and Battlecruisers since there were so few of them, for Destroyers and the like you won't be seeing many named duplicates but you certainly will with Battleships.

But since there are so few Battleships I think they're just going to go by configuration and name so you'll be seeing-

player HMS Warspite (BB)
player 2 HMS Warspite (BB)
player 3 HMS Warspite (BB)
player 4 HMS Sovereign (BB)
player 5 HMS Belfast (BB)
player 6 HMS Dicks (DE)

Or what have you

Would have been nice if a few of these mighty vessels like Warspite were kept afterwards, as by today they would serve as poignant reminders of the strength and reach of the British Naval Empire.

>Coincidentally, the Cap Trafalgar, also intended for use against enemy merchant fleets, had been altered to resemble the Carmania;[3] some accounts wrongly claimed that both ships were disguised as each other.[

>Both the British and German commanders believed that in order to obtain a decisive victory, they would need more space to maneuver their ships. They steamed several miles into open sea before turning into each other and commencing hostilities.

>After receiving Cap Trafalgar's distress call, the SMS Kronprinz Wilhelm arrived near the battle scene. Fearing a British attack, assuming the Cap Trafalgar had already been sunk, and not knowing the poor condition of Carmania, she turned around and steamed away.

"8 June, a group of RAF Hawker Typhoons attacked the 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th U.S. Infantry Division on the Isigny Highway, France, causing 24 casualties.[38]"

"7 August, a RAF Hawker Typhoon strafed a squad from 'F' Company/US 120th Infantry Regiment, near Hill 314, France, killing two men.[41] Around noon on the same day, RAF Hawker Typhoon of the 2TAF was called in to assist the US 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion in stopping an attack by the 2nd SS Panzer Division between Sourdeval and Mortain but instead fired its rockets at two US 3-inch guns near L'Abbaye Blanche, killing one man and wounding several others even after the yellow smoke (which was to identify friendlies) was put out. Two hours later, an RAF Typhoon shot up the Service Company of the 120th Infantry Regiment, US 30th Division, causing several casualties, including Major James Bynum who was killed near Mortain. The officer who replaced him was strafed by another Typhoon a few minutes later and seriously wounded. Around the same time, a Hawker Typhoon attacked the Cannon Company of 120th Infantry Regiment, US 30th Division, near Mortain, killing 15 men.[41] An hour later, RAF Typhoons strafed 'B' Company/US 120th Infantry Regiment on Hill 285, killing a driver of a weapons carrier.[42]"

"On 27 August, a minesweeping flotilla of Royal Navy ships came under fire. At about noon of the 27th, HMS Britomart, Salamander, Hussar and Jason came under rocket and cannon attacks by Hawker Typhoons of No. 263 Squadron RAF and No. 266 Squadron RAF. HMS Britomart and HMS Hussar took direct hits and were sunk. HMS Salamander had her stern blown off and sustained heavy damage. HMS Jason was raked by machine gun fire, killing and wounding several of her crew. Two of the accompanying trawlers were also hit. The total loss of life was 117 sailors killed and 153 wounded. The attack had continued despite the attempts by the ships to signal that they were friendly and radio requests by the commander of the aircraft for clarification of his target. In the aftermath the surviving sailors were told to keep quiet about the attack. "

>27 June – a group of RAF Vickers Wellingtons bombed the units of 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), British 7th Armoured Division and the British 3rd Hussars during a two-hour raid near Mersa Matruh, Egypt, killing over 359 troops and wounding 560. The aftermath of RAF raids at this time were also seen by the Germans: "... The RAF had bombed their own troops, and with tracer flying in all directions, German units fired on each other. At 0500 hours next morning 28 June, I drove up to the breakout area where we had spent such a disturbed night. There we found a number of lorries filled with the mangled corpses of New Zealanders who had been killed by the British bombs

Jesus fucking christ was the later part of WWII a giant fucking mess of friendly fire?

And I still remember the endless news coverage during the 2003 War when a US soldier shot another in a FF incident on the battlefield.

Yet I never heard about all these FF incidents till right fucking now, jesus I never even heard of the Tempest and Typhoons till War Thunder really.

Is the only reason that there are no Hurricane and Spitfire friendly fire incidents because those were only mainly used in the defense of Britain until phased out by the others for general use over Europe?
>>
Is there some magical force of nature by which BRs stop being retarded when they play jets? Whenever I see BRs in my team flying props they tend to act slav levels of retarded, but with jets it's like they suddenly learn the concepts of teamwork, communication, situational awareness, etc
>>
>>78411864

Yes, and spitfires and hurricanes were mostly just used for air supremacy, typhoons were nice for ground attack since their cannons would rip halftracks to shreds so they would constantly be on the watch for vehicles. It would be hard to identify a vague moving convoy or camouflaged blob in the woods at high altitude

there were a million A-10 incidents in the middle eastern wars for the same reason, even with modern FLIR and nice camera imaging CAS pilots fuck up all the time

In the 2003 war the US probably suffered more losses from friendly fire than actual combat with the enemy. It doesn't make great news though.

Then and now. My guess would be that the RAF wasn't alone in the number of friendly personnel and assets it destroyed.

It's one of those things about war that people always leave out of the stories because it makes everyone sound like a retard.
>>

I wonder if there were more FF incident in WWI than WWII, certainly from gas attacks.

Even better that she was sunk by the Germans, using radio controlled bombs fired from Do 217s.

They knew the Italians had signed an armistice agreement, and the Italian fleet was steaming towards Malta to surrender. They denied the Allies a significant prize.

If you join a game and fly around in a circle over over airfield and win you will get a few RP and a fair amount of SL. If you lose you get less RP and a few SL.
If you actually accomplish something useful like shooting at another plane or ground target you obviously also get stuff, it flashes on screen.
I don't know what more you want, how much RP do you think you should get for doing nothing useful?
>>
>>78419213
Because those things have no place in the game and all they do is break the game. Bombers are not meant to be used as lone wolf gunships.

Weren't battleships rather useless by world war 2? It seems to me that outside of bombardment they were too slow to really keep up in fleet engagements and too large a target/costly to morale for risking them in most operations. It seems to me that cruisers usually did most of the workload that battleships were built for, and were much more resilient against carrier attack by being smaller and faster.

at least that's what I get from playing WiTP:AA as japan, i'm too scared of sending my battleships out because american carriers are everywhere, fuck, go home waitu piggu
>>
>>78422323
Yes, battleships were obsolete.

Didn't stop people from building them though.
>>

You shouldn't use "it seems to me" so many times in quick succession, it makes it sound like you care about your own opinion just as much as the rest of us.

I'm sad to learn that WitP does not stand for War in the Pocket.

They were more useful in the Mediterranean and the pacific. only because of their ability to being heavy guns and provide shore bombardment. but even then of dubious benefit compared to an equivalent manpower and material being spent on airplanes and airmen or on land based artillery.

battleships were only safe to use when the battle was almost assuredly won

the atlantic was terrible for battleships. it was only submarines vs convoys. the Atlantic was all about escort carriers, air cover and small ships like destroyers, corvettes and light cruisers.

Apparently we were fighting planes that dont exist
That being said I killed 2 slavs and Tetsuo, one gave me a good deflection shot on his wings and the other tried to head on 7.53kg/s of HE cannons coming at him

I mean, they served their purposes. Battleships were useful for shelling coastal positions, and at least in the case of American BBs, their anti-aircraft armament was pretty awesome.

But after the advent of the Aircraft Carrier, they became gigantic floating islands of steel carrying thousands of people that could be blown up by a few dozen planes (or even just one lucky one) being launched from hundreds of miles away.

It's a shame because they were badass, but for the cost in manpower, resources, and money they became less and less of a safe investment.

A sexy museum.

And the first battleship museum that will become a dry berth, since water damage and leaking is causing a list that forced her to be shut down, they decided the cost of repairing and constructing a new permanent dry berth is worth the cost of constant upkeep due to water intake.

It's going to be quite a unique museum. And will showcase the sheer size of the vessel better than any other.

I'm quite hype, although its sad she will never be in her natural element again.

There's no other like it in the world, and its also the only surviving dreadnought, double whammy.

>>78427946
Just like an iceberg yes, the public never really gets to see a view of a warship out of its element because that only happens in drydock so a museum like this will be really unique for a ship this size.

>>78428167
Theres something part satisfying and part sad about seeing a ship out of water like that. On the one hand it just got easier to handle as a museum and could allow more access to the public, and yet on the other it is forever out of its element.

Still cool pic.
