>Nostalgia
Edition

> Can the game be considered a full release?
No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state.
The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective.
There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

> Are there big issues with the game?
Bugs and instability are still real and frequent problems, as with every product still in beta. Ask in thread for details.

> What are the devs doing?
Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version. The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better.
An external team with heavily questionable experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U. They seem to be rushing for an imminent deadline and they are also working on a version of the game that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months.

> Should I buy the game?
KSP is very enjoyable at first, then it usually needs to be modded to retain some sort of longevity, but doing so may dramatically increase the instability of the game. You will be very familiar with the word "Oops!".
The Developers, Squad, have shown many times that they can't handle the project and are trying to squeeze all the money they can with the least amount of effort and with controversial PR tactics.
The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you shouldn't purchase the game, not because the game itself is unplayable, but because most of us agree that Squad does not deserve your money.

The main problem with 3D waifus is that you only like them because how they look. They are not the person they seem to be in public. They're actors. Pretty sure this girl here is a bitch in real life.
Another "problem" is that most people with 3D waifus change them very often slowly destroying the meaning of it. Just like with marriage. If you can just simply divorce if you have little problems it takes the magic of a life long marriage away.

>Newfag
lel, I mean to this general, I guess.
>>
>>123161259
not sure why that confuses you. around releases we get newfriends in the thread that ask whether they should buy the game and whether it's still in development, and then they expect us to read a dissertation off to them when the answer is invariably "no". the OP tries to solve that issue.
>>
>>123161186
>What's with that disclaimer?
It avoids unnecessary long answers when you can just link to the OP when someone comes in and asks if the game is good. Or it just doesn't make them ask in the first place.

>No other general on this site has that...

We changed the OP recently.

We don't hate the game, but the developers of it are beyond horrible.

And if you want the community that loves KSP even if it stabbed their mother, go to reddit or the forums.

I really just wanted to know what exactly happened to generate such hate for Squad. I've had nothing but good times with KSP and never really bothered with the back end. I never got beyond Minmus, successfully, either though.

>I just find it odd that you all are active in a community for a game you seem to dislike.

I just find it odd that you are criticizing and OP that you are clearly not able to understand.
>>
>>123161759
The major flaw in KSP is that it has no endcontent at all.

You learn how orbits work, and if you did you can do anything in the game. There is nothing more.

And there was added nothing more over the last two year. Nothing that was build in did somehow enrich the gameplay. They did build in a mode where you have tons of restrictions. Some even fall for it and love how you can unlock stuff because it gives you the illusion that you play for something more than the mediocre gameplay. By the way, that's something most FPS do nowadays.

And as I can see you are still fairly new to the game, that's totally okay. When I first played it I though KSP was awesome. But soon enough I realised there is nothing more to the game. Enjoy the game while you still can, but don't expect us to agree with your opinion. We've been there, we've done that.

The concept is good. But the implementation is horrible.

All the engines and parts are equally balanced. You don't get better engines when you upgrade anything in the tech tree, you just get a greater variety to chose from. And while some are clearly better at some things all in all they are all on the same tech level.

If they really wanted to make career interesting they'd have to do more than just place existing parts behind time walls.
You should start with crappy engines, and while time passes you can slowly make the engines better or even specialise them. Same with all the other parts. Make the early pods have low crash and heat resistance and while you progress the game you can improve them. Create that 1950 feeling of space travel where everything is kind of wonky and let the player experience the cange that comes with better parts.

But all of that would have required more work than they wanted to put into so they just decided: well, fuck it, just make people grind. Career could have become something great, but instead they fucked it up.

And before you come with my own argument
>illusion that you play for something more than the mediocre gameplay
There are ways of creating an upgrade system into the game without making it feel like you need to kills 10 more boars to get an level up. The above way would be an easy example. But Career also needs a redesign on how you get Science. Just rightlicking on parts is pretty idiotic.

Pretty sure there are but since gaining science is still just visiting the same body just on a hill instead of a lake and the gameplay itself still has nothing more to offer I didn't felt like installing any of the career enhancing mods.

So..i decided to download this game again.
Last time was with 0.90 and was for a short time too.

What to expect? Are the usual big career mods updated (like BTSM, SETI and the likes)?
>>
>>123192787
If you're a billy, expect the game to be much harder. They've added realistic heating, aerodynamics and decent buoyancy. Career mode has a bit more variety now also.
>>
>>123193334
Not a Billy, but not a full manpat either.
Used to play with FAR and DR so I am used to heating and aero.

They added in some sorting options and filters (by fuel type, bulkhead size, that kind of thing), but it's still not great. There are some changes due on that front for the next release however. They've had to reimplement everything for the new Unity 5 GUI, so they've done some streamlining. Also they've hired a lot of modders recently, so many long-time bugbears are being taken care of as time goes on.

>inb4 they rebuilt the system from the ground up but still didn't implement basic quality of life fixes because they don't understand what those are
From the dev notes it sounds like they're tearing everything down just to build it up again the same, no user experience lessons learned. Their problem is that GUI tends to be a bit part of the uniquely identifying branding for a game. The Squad marketers are likely terrified of changing it.
>>
>>123198151
Check if wires behind the switch are secured correctly and tightly.
Take apart whatever is left of the old hardware and check for obvious signs of corrosion.

Since you already replaced the switch and didn't kill yourself, I don't think a lecture on safety is necessary, so just go and inspect that thing.
>>
>>123197997
I've been thinking a lot and the single best thing they could do at this late stage is change the craft saving system from "STRING = CRAFT" to a system of templates, variants, with tagging, search, a gallery and a way to organize them and plan missions.

But of course it'll ship with the current system and I'll be naming my ships on the wii-u Untitled Space Craftzzzyx
>>
So, when you play with a joystick once, the setting.cfg file get corrupted.
Fascinating.
I used to play with a joystick without problem, wtf happened?
>>
>>123201793
You can play with steam controller now, maybe they fucked up the other controller controlls.
>>
>>123201793
they spent a month of the beta making it possible to use 7 joysticks concurrently

they probably just didn't bother to QA it
>>
>>123202934
I'd be very surprised if anyone but Squad had a Steam controller, and Squad was probably too busy using Maxmaps going as an excuse to drink.
>>
>>123203121
nah they posted some bragging tweets about getting the controllers

max probably "accidentally" "borrowed them" then "lost" them.
>>
>>123203453
That's what I said, Squad has them but I doubt any of the QA or experimentals team does.

And Squad sure as fuck wouldn't do their own testing.
>>
Could you guys remind me what the "max physics delta-time per frame" setting does?
>>
>>123204916
If your craft is so big that physics calculations take up more time than rendering a frame, that setting allows the game to lower the physics quality to speed up framerate. Lower physics delta means a smoother framerate, but rougher physics.
>>
>>123205163
I thought it worked out as if you fucked with the setting, you would get better physics AND framerate, but time was basically slowed down when physics calcs got heavy (like on high-part count vessels).
>>
>>123205163
So this basically allows me to see yellow and red clocks less frequently?
What effects will the rough physics have? Random explosions, wrong orbits or what?
>>
>>123205339
Well, time does get slowed down, through the frame rate.
