It's super frustrating. I drove an hour out of my rural area to a bigger town. It's the holy Pokémon land compared to my town: lot's of Pokémon I never saw and spots all over the place. 10 minutes into walking around the servers shut down. You're sitting there thinking "uhm, do I wait or do I drive home?" This was on friday when the servers went down for like 3 hours. Had to drive back and was super pissed.

Monster CP raises with your level.
You only need high CP pokemon if you plan on taking and keeping a gym.
By the time you reach a point where you could level a pokemon with stardust to a high enough CP to compete for a gym, you will be finding even better pokemon in the wild when you're level 20.
Level up one of THOSE pokemon when you're 20 and you will have a MUCH HIGHER CP pokemon to take gyms with.
Using your stardust early on when ANY pokemon is a waste because they will be obsolete well before you ever hit level 20.

Fellow nox users, if you're like me and beginning to wonder how we'll ever make it to level 30, here's my plan. Pic related on Victory Memorial Drive, MN just a bit north of the 6-stop farm spot is a 4-stop spot. However, please do NOT lure these. Instead, set up a macro (hit ctrl+9). I set it up to click on and swipe all 4 pokestops every 320 seconds. I don't touch it, I just leave it there. I've done this for the last hour or so and I've gained several thousand XP from this. The one flaw is that the macro might click on pokemon instead, which is very likely if the Pokestops are lured, but very unlikely otherwise. So please do not lure this spot. Set up your macro, don't touch your screen, and leave it up when you sleep, or when you go out, or when you eat/shower/whatever. It nets on average 3600 XP/hr.
