Atlus has a tax on all of their games. An extra $10 in exchange for being fairly long and going on sale extremely often (Etrian Odyssey IV and Untold go on sale for $9.99 almost monthly.) I'd wait for an eshop sale before buying it.

the 3d function itself was around the time 3d tvs were coming out, but they never caught on because they were expensive and stupid
they also had the AR cards, but only a few early games made use of them, like KH3D and maybe Nintendogs. then they abandoned that idea entirely for amiibos and amiibo cards that barely do anything
also they have all these streaming apps that are worthless since it has awful screen resolution and lags terribly (at least netflix and youtube do)
also homebrew functions prove a lot of functions could've (and still can) be included using the O3DS' power, like screenshots without using miiverse and a real save data backup system but they didn't bother to make them native features

They tried going for all the gimmicks at the time but none of them succeeded.
Regarding save data backup system, that kinda makes sense, they want to stop stuff like the used game market, specially companies like Capcom, that's why RE mercenaries doesn't have a save deletion feature or the AA games are digital only (they fear that after you finish it you'll sell it since it has no replay value). Also stuff like save scumming games like Pokémon and easily duplicating rare mons.
