yep, you can leave them in the resource files and nothing will happen if they aren't used, just the game loads the resource file
it shouldn't really affect loading time, and if it does you can just copy and paste all the shit you do want to a new .brf and load that instead

The troop trees are retarded, some troops upgraded to a different weapon which they had no skill for. For instance a skeleton archer would upgrade and get more archery proficiency and power draw. Then the final upgrade gave them a crossbow with 0 crossbow skill. This was sorted by the hotfix I think, but not just giving them equal proficiency in all weapons when they couldn't use others was a fucking retarded idea. The stupid troop trees where things can become something else also precluded having freelancer. The map is far too big, factions cities are either too close or so far apart they can't defend themselves (chaos). There is no bandit parties after about week 2. The models are ridiculous, chaos warrior is about 3 times the size of a fucking orc and obscures the whole screen. Ah I could go on but these problems stuck out at me

I want to like Geko, I really do. A setting that isn't medieval europe adds some variety. Freelancer and Diplomacy are essentials and are in too, I like both mods.
I can overlook units being basically the same, everywhere and for everyone. It cuts a little variety sure but I can deal with it.
I wanted to try a mod with guns too. They do guns nicely, but george's pistol breaks it for me and I can't bring myself not to use it.
The biggest flaw with Geko, for me, is the lack of map variety. The cities and castles are beautiful, despite units hitting each other through doors, and really give a distinct feel. However, with the exception of a few cities and castles, it's mostly the same few maps. I'm sure there is only one kind of map for road battles and one for bridge battles. Since you walk along roads pretty often, you see that map really, really often.
Sieges really don't feel bloody or hard at all as the lack of choke points removes the defender's bonus. I remember how in VC I need to send the vanguard to man the ladders and I already started losing soldiers. I would prefer if I saw these guys dying while they put the ladders up, but it still contributed to the "meatgrinder" feel of a siege, the feeling that a defeat would set you back considerably and that even outnumbering them, defeat was a real possibility.
Though losing sieges just because you got knocked down was infuriating.
But I digress, the point is, Geko is really feeling like a lot of the same thing now.
I will try something else. Can't try a sandbox of VC because there's a patch coming out, so maybe I will finally give 1257 a try and swallow that awful map. Or Sands of Faith, though the lack of religions puts me off. Or L'Aigle. Or Europe in Flames 2.
