I'm making a simple shmup. Its my first real attempt at making anything.

I would like to find out how can I link other libraries to my project. Every guide I see is very vague about this, like I have missed some paragraph about this very trivial thing when I was learning the language.

I have a lib folder, an include folder, and I know I have to add some text to the 'Other linker options' field in Code::Blocks, add the #include lines to the main.cpp, and later put the dll file next to the executable.

Yet the stuff I'm looking at only contains a bunch of .h and .c files. Is there any basic approach to this? Lazyfoo at his SDL tutorial was such a bro for explaining every single step regarding this question, but I have never found any other guide like his in case of other libraries.

It's a case by case scenario. If your game has many unique characters that need lots of animation but not much in the way of gameplay, then the artist can end up doing more work. Like if you have heaps of dumb enemies that all use the same ai.
But yes in most cases the artist most likely does less than 50% especially for smaller scopes.

No, we absolutely dont have enough information to make that call

The value of 1 "damage" could mean a lot of things. Do enemies have "hitpoints"? Do they have 1 hit point? Do they have 1000? Is there another way that damage is calculated?

Does speed * damage = expected DPS? Does each point of "speed" confer a 1% increase? a 0.1%% increase? A 10% increase?

How is armor calculated? Is it a percentage based reduction? Is it an absolute reduction? Is it a combination of the two? Does armor cause a miss chance instead?

Basic randomized shmup. It's my first game in close to a year and the first I could really call my own so I thought I'd work with something simple to jump off of for later projects.

The 'plot' is you play a drone sent into a field to collect observation data, over time going deeper into the field but you can strafe close to objects without busting your hitbox to collect data faster.

When I spawn a particle system it works fine. I can move it around and instantiate no problem. When I try to rotate it, it breaks. The particles all spawn on top of each other.

In actual progress, I added some energy mechanics. Standing still recharges energy, moving drains it a little, shooting drains it, and moving and shooting drains it the most. At low energy you can move, but can't shoot. Mech continues to recharge when you leave it.

There might be a better way, but how I've always done it in GM:S is to, in your Step Event, basically you have your horizontal collision check, which checks your x + your movement speed, and if it returns a collision, I do a short do() loop which iterates y values upwards by 1 pixel at a time until either the y is above a certain amount (slope is too steep/its a wall) or until it finds a collision-free spot.

It then uses the movement speed and the y result to calculate the slope (rise-over-run, hi middle school) and then however you want to handle slowdown would happen using that data.

for a check in a single point, calculate which tile you're on through a simple division with floor
then check which kind of tile is that tile
if it's empty, no collision
if it's full, collision
if it's partially full, there are several ways to tackle this. if you have no subpixel precision, the easiest way would be to make a table of constants that have the coordinate at which the solid part starts for each row/column, and then compare the position within the tile accordingly to get the result
depending on tile rotation, the table could indicate the row or column and shit, you know the drill

I wish I listened when people told me Unity was shit, now I'm in too deep and don't wanna quit but its so fucking bloated and unfriendly. I literally only chose Unity cause C# was so similar to Java and I was too lazy to learn C++ and UE4.

That actually sounds like a good idea and I'm really inspired with the detective concept now. Only problem is I've never done online games before. How much of a hassle is it? I'd appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction for it actually since I really wanna make this game now.

Very good for the first attempt. But you have one serious problem: Transitions. They are way too rough. It feels like there's 3 different compositions in one composition. Take a look at 0:49 and 2:09 for instance. Another critical problem is the lack of the bass layer. Having at least one bass layer feels saturated in these type of compositions. Apart from these problems, your composition is very melodic, I like it! Best part is 1:38-1:52 imho. Keep up the good work anon!

As the other guy said I think if you add a subtle bass or constant melody it might smoothen out the transitions and feel more natural
