Tom was the straight man and gareth was the 'wacky' one. good combination. out of the two new guys on LW, one is uptight and pretentious (even quoted fucking skakespeare) and the other one is boring.

Alright. I just read this and to me, it doesn't seem like they know what they're doing with it. If this is supposed to be a continuation of the pre-reboot continuity, that's not at all what I'm seeing here. We get a story about the Zone Cops that leads in to where pre-reboot left off but then it just ends. Then there's a story about Tails and Ray which was cute but doesn't really add anything overall. And I have no idea what the fuck that Blaze and Elise story was even supposed to be.
So there's an editorial page at the end explaining that this wasn't even part of the continuation but rather a spinoff of it. Doing shit like that in fancomics is a terrible idea and only slows down production of the real thing. You just don't do it. Make a few issues of the fucking real continuation first, see how long it takes the team to get through them and then decide if a spinoff is worth pursuing. (If it takes more than several months to get an issue out, then it's probably not a good idea.) And none of this is apparently canon to their main story so what is even the point of it?
The artwork and overall presentation is good, I'll give them that but everything else about this is a mess. I give them two or three more issues before it falls apart and dies. And why did they include an advertisement for Sonic Dash at the end? Was that necessary? It's not like this is an official comic.

I think the main problem is that they just don't have their priorities balanced out. Like I said earlier, the art and presentation is good. They're just starting on the wrong note. Aside from whoever wrote the Blaze story, they do have a decent team put together. It's that the efforts aren't being put into the right thing.

I started reading from the beginning a few months ago.
I am now 3 issues into the reboot era and I'm fucking confused.
I thought you guys said it was a complete mind wipe, because both certain characters are straight up referencing the old continuity

The only reason they don't discuss it is literally because the old canon is essentially trademarked now. It's dumb, and they should have just made it so nobody remembers it, but that's what we have.

For all intents and purposes it's a hard reboot with an in-universe justification. Ian wanted to just make it an obvious hard reboot after Eggman messes up the world rebuilding, but the editor wanted it to be softer because he thought it would help sell the trades of pre-reboot issues. Of course, that assumes Archie can actually publish trades with any level of consistency.

They stop referencing it after the first reboot arc, but technically speaking, yes, they still remember what happened. Nothing has happened to wipe their minds to be like everyone else's.
Most people agree this was a bad decision and that they should have just given Sonic and Eggman the same amnesia as everyone else.
The silver lining is that if somehow one day this all goes away and Penders grows a new leaf or dies or whatever, they have their in via Eggman and Sonic to bring back in old unfinished plot lines. I'm guessing that was the reasoning.
