His helmets are pretty good and you can use the laser pointer, light and in some cases the visor or UV eye-piece type things on any number of helmets. The Laser and light will fit almost every helmet, the visor/UV/Heads up displays work on some, not on others.

I'd just get the reinforcement pack for all three. If you change your mind mid campaign, and buy one of the DLCs which have a story mission, you won't get the chance to run through them(but still get the content)

Reverse-engineering Ayy tech with magic really can go anywhere: You start out slow with your reaction times to respond to the alien threat and limited to one or two castles in your kingdom but, as you recover more Elerium/Alloys/MELD you get to the point were time and space are on your side as you can get (and aid) to the other kingdoms with more and more quicker means. And you will need to help them and eventually arm them as well because the aliens will eventually escalate the invasion and you will be hard pressed to contain it all from your kingdom alone.

Yea, I do. I have 600 hours or so sunk into XCOM EW thanks to Long Dong, who's magnificence is still unrivaled. ABA tries, and does step up the vanilla game, but it just simply will not and cannot match the magnificence of long war. This is mostly due to the creator actually being a seemingly great guy with some semblance of balance!

Just to elaborate on what I mean, thanks to the expanded long dong camera, you could scan the map preemptively for objectives, and more importantly, meld! It was a huge tactic and was very relied on to have a steady supply of the stuff. JL eventually pushed out a patch for it, but said that in return he increased the meld timers. Want to know by how much?

He changed one of the numbers in the meld timer calculation formula from 1.5 to 1.55. The math was done, and this averaged out to add one turn to the meld timer per five missions.

Well it depends on a lot of things, like if you want to remove the overwatch from some Advent, or you want to enrage a berserker, or you need to remove supression, or there's something like an archon or a muton centurion or something that you want to kill asap, in those cases usually i take the best shot i can take first.

But when it's just a random firefight against typical advent, i usually just take the low percentage shots first, then the good ones, and i leave soldiers with guaranteed to hit abilities last, so things like psi and grenadiers.

I wondered the same thing so I did some investigation last week. With the release of xcom2, ufopaedia got way more visits then there servers could handle (apparently in combination with spam attacks) so for a bit, even the xcom pages were down. They eventually managed to acquire new servers and are now stable, but there is confusion currently in leadership and management. While the site was being spammed to death they turned off the sign up function that allowed people to create an account and modify the pages (like a normal wiki). The are currently trying to sort things out, get orgnaized, and get the user sign up function back up and running.

I'm currently monitoring the relevant forum thread and will let people know when user signups are once again allowed. Hopefully the X2 page can get up to speed with where the other wiki pages are shortly after.

It's definitively possible. I'm a bit code illiterate so i can't be of much help, but from what i can gather, what makes the rulers act like they do is basically an ability called "AlienRulerActionSystem"

My best advise is that you go to steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XComGame\DLC\DLC_2\Script and open the file there with notepad++, at first it'll look like junk that you can't open with notepad, but fret not, scroll down and you'll start seeing the usual .uc code, or you can just search for the ability i mentioned above to find it.

Or search for something like "ViperKing" to get to his character template.

In theory it might be possible to just slap that ability on lancers and have them go rules of nature on your ass.

Yeah it can happen, but usually the karma factor is pretty harsh in xcom. People who don't get kills die. Unless you're talking about snipers.

Scientists are just hot ass. I thought about what it would be like to build a lab the first month and realized even with faster techs you won't have the resources still to even build the shit you would unlock faster. Hopefully the expansion gives them a bonus staffing of some kind.

Does anyone else get the bug in long war where during suppression the shooter faces off angle pointing in the wrong direction, like they can only face 90 degree angles?

You really should get some. Some ships/ some ships on specific missions never land. Shooting down craft that scout for retaliation missions prevent them from finding your base. They don't find your base, no base defense.

Legendary with ABA++ and not created equal rookies and I have fielded two, both dying in their very first mission. Can't hit for shit, can't take cover, two measily armor.

And the best thing: I'll have to double check but I swear they have as much (as little) HP as one of my regular soldiers without the ability to take cover (and blast padding in LW2 means you can have a soldier with 2 armor to boot!)

Were they better in vanilla?

The concept and timers or just punishment for taking too much time in general already smacks snipers really hard. That and the fact their entire job is shooting people, there is literally nothing else the can or should be doing. They aren't the god class they were in X1, and I think giving them back squad-sight wouldn't do anything but push them more towards "good" instead of just "ok."

I'd think if you could add weapon mods for them (I am pretty sure there's a mod for that, too) then it'd solve their worthlessness - slap a superior scope and it's 15 or 20 bonus aim, so even some dogshit low 70s would become 85s-90s.

to be honest i've found the lubrication sniper class far more interesting than the sharpshooter class ever was

no squadsight without setting up the previous turn, but capable of moving and firing non-squadsight shots, with a focus on selective overwatch or high damage abilities

gunslingers are pretty useful and somewhat fill in the 'infantry' role that isn't present in vanilla X2, but they feel like two entirely different classes rather than a single class with different specialization

I'm digging the Sharpshooter in the LW Perk pack.
Snapshot is on the first rank upgrade and rather than negating your aim on the second shot, it negates your aim on your squad sight range.

Once you go beyond 5 tiles squadsight you get severe aim penalties.
Turns the Sharpshooter into a DM or some such, they can trundle along with your squad while dishing out accurate, high powered fire.

I know there's the other classes, I was just reflecting on how I felt the sniper was over-nerfed in the vanilla balance. Before I knew about the prevalence of timers, I thought it might be a reasonable change, not so much afterwards.

I saw the snapshot perk already and thought it looked excellent. The setting up concept from lubrication is cool as well.

I think specialist is the real issue here. They have to rank up 3-4 times before they go from marginally useful to actually useful. Instead of mech upgrades and then overwatch upgrades they should be alternating. I like the specialists tech gimmick too, wish it had a bit more use though.

In what sense?

Mag weapons would help early mid game, and counter dark events like extra armor, or when the enemy starts having armor. Lasers ease the transistion into late game.

Vanilla mag weapons have +2 damage. You're tier only is +1. It depends on what kind of percentages these "chances" to ignore/shred have, but if its not very high, then you're just dealing less damage. Also, plenty of enemies don't have armor, or only have one point of armor.

The difference 1 damage is surprisingly huge in xcom, just like giving an enemy even 1 more hp.
