To be fair they don't have many positions left to take honestly. Either something is getting retconned or you have to start making direct sequels to games (such as TP) or sequels to AoL/FSA/ST.
Like that's really all that's left, what we know of BotW doesn't leave a whole lot of room for placement beyond retcons or convergence.

What I mean is, the Adult and Child were both set up to be two different "what if" sequel stories derived from OoT. Downfall doesn't fit that, despite getting its own, because most of its content was made before OoT was even a brainstorm.
Nintendo is almost guaranteed to not put BotW into either of the two dependent timelines simply because it would diminish the game's value. They're obviously trying to reboot the franchise, they're looking back to the classics for inspiration, and they're throwing all kinds of references from Zelda history everywhere they can. That's why I think it's most likely going to be its own thing.
You have to take off the Zelda fan goggles for a minute and look at it from a marketing standpoint. BotW is not going to win back the casual Zelda fan or bring in new players by being a sequel to TP or WW or whatever.

Not really. So far, both adult and downfall supporters brought up good arguments to their theories. Far more solid than anything regarding the convergence one.
Besides, we know that the split happened in OoT for one specific reason: time travel. So, in a simple way, ever Zelda game that features time travel can cause yet another new split. So the possibilities are way more than just retcons or convergences. Yes, I am implying BotW could be part of a totally new timeline.

I highly, highly doubt they're going to make an entirely new timeline for the mainline games. Besides the made a point to show that OoA, MM, and SS that both dealt with time travel and paradoxes didn't create separate timelines, which means that in order for the Hero of Time to have done it, it means he somehow created some weird concurrent timeline with his own through the Master Sword/Temple of Time shenanigans, and Zelda creates a further divergence by sending him back instead of straight resetting like the Hero of Time does in MM.
OoT will only ever be the one that causes a divergence, there is no reason to cause all these weird multiverse alternate timelines spanning from every single game, that gets way too convoluted for a series, especially one where it's already convoluted enough.
As for the timelines, every single timeline has to be retconned in some way for the games to fit.

The only true continuity information we really have about the ToT, is that it was built on the ruins of the SS Statue of the Goddess, and that the ruined ToT is the Sacred Grove seen in LTTP. Everything else we have are visual observations and game-play elements, which don't necessarily stick between games.

Honestly, I don't have a good answer.
The only thing I could say to reason it out is launching something else, isn't the same as launching yourself. I don't think the Triforce of Power would work akin to Iron Man repulsors. It's more for firing something away, than propelling oneself towards. But that's just spitballing.

The Master Sword is actually always in the Pedestal it never changes.

The only two cases of it not being in the Temple is the Noble Sword turning into the Master Sword in the Oracle games (likely not a canon explanation or more akin that ALttP Link just went and got it from Hyrule and came back) and FSA I believe where the Four Sword becomes the Master Sword, which you still remain split, so it's not the actual Master Sword.
If there is one thing that has remained consistent in Zelda it's the Master Sword's location, and Death Mountain/Eldin Volcano. The one exception now to both seems to be BotW.

Considering the way the rest of the castle looks, I doubt that would be the case. I mean that does have a very similar design shape to the Temple of Time's roof as well. It's possible that that part was just never finished when Ganondorf escaped the Sacred Realm and attacked.

I remember before Hyrule Historia came out, when there was no official timeline....I sort of believed that the Fours Sword and Master Sword were the same sword. But with the timeline being the way it is now, as told in Hyrule Historia, it's not physically possible. I mean, the Picori sword even bears some resemblance to the Master Sword. Given they wanted to make the game about the origin of the hat, they might have felt it was pushing too far to try to deal with the Master Sword also. So, they just make a new magic sword with its own thing. Stored in some room in Hyrule that Link just doesn't usually find in the other games.

I assume the Master Sword just got lost somewhere between SS and MC and was re-found sometime between MC and OoT, so the Picori made a sword in the mean time that functioned similarly enough to it, and it was eventually lost to time and re-found in between TP and FSA.

MC is set after SS, but the origin story of the Picori Blade could still predate everything. The Picori Blade is from the Minish, and so is the hat, so naturally the hat would lead you to the thing he knew existed. The Master Sword isn't necessarily common knowledge, and it is apparently too large for small children to use. The Picori Blade may be lighter or smaller, because the Minish are child centered.

The Gerudo Symbol is fair, desert people with that symbol and being largely woman controlled could be a bad thing to do. Yes, Link waking up in the middle of nowhere with no knowledge of anything and eventually coming across an old man who helps him out is all very nostalgic and reminiscent of the NES Zeldas, but something about the entire presentation of it gives off very sterile and cold feeling, like something's very "off" about all of this. Anyone else getting the same vibes?
I mean Link wakes up from a what's essentially a kind of artificial factory vat with no suggested past, relationships or anything - Zelda sends him a message to kill Ganon and nothing else. Ganon is already seen and established as a threat within the first few minutes of the game. The Sheikah planned out EVERYTHING for this Link's awakening, from towers, to items, to runes.
Despite the theme, the overworld and the name of the title focusing on the wild, I can't help but get a exhausted and manufactured vibe from the story implications. As if the cycles have happened so many times that they no longer feel like a natural event but an engineered one to the point where everything is prepared and perfectly set up to a T. All of the known nods to previous games and the post-apocalyptic technology theme sort of supports it in a way. Not to mention the 30th anniversary is coming up.
Please tell me I'm not alone when it comes to these suspicions.

I suspect that the plot will be surprisingly familiar.
The voice tells us that the world will end if Calamity Ganon regains his full power. So basically a quest goal similar to SS and AoL.
With the Master Sword in disrepair, we are looking at a quest to fix it, as in SS, MC, OoX.
With the Master Sword involved at all, there is a strong chance that were are questing for the three colored pendants, as in LTTP, WW, and OOT.
As fun as it might be to have an old Link come back, odds are probably strong that this is a new Link with his own reasons for taking a long nap.

They seem to be legitimately excited about the story of this game and some of them have even gone so far to state that this game will have a great story. That's a Chrono Trigger problem. Where if you do the secret dungeon in the present it should still exist in the past. It's more of just a gameplay problem than anything like you said.
The real problem with a time-traveling Ganondorf is the very thing that causes problems in Zelda, Ocarina of Time. He could essentially time travel back to before Young Link exposed him and deal with Young Link there. I mean he would effectively be impossible to deal with unless a time-traveling Link managed to stop his time-travel and reset everything back to the way it was, so it would just make it all null and void in the first place.
