Don't spend Lapis on anything aside from inventory upgrades when you need them. Everything else should be saved up for when good characters are up for pulling. Focus on story quests first if you can. There are 2 hidden espers that you can get.

start bringing a mage for aoe clears.
most bosses do not resist debuffs so use them wisely. for instance if you have chizuru most enemies can be paralyzed, including many bosses. poison also does like 10% damage to an enemy so very worthwhile if they are vulnerable to it. also start looking for an aoe healer.

It's a trust reward from a 4-6* donut steel axe-wielder. Water element 125 Atk axe.
Dark Cecil also has a 120 Atk trust reward that is Dark element and has the Man Eater effect. So Cecil's got it good.

Okay, I'm gonna lay some context on you that spils some of the flashbacks that they show you later.
Lightning feels responsible to take care of Serah after their parents died and goes into the military to take care of her and her sister. 13 days or so before the start of the game "The Purge", Lightning's sister Serah fell in love with a rapscallion rebel named Snow, who also fel the same way. They decided that when they threw a birthday party for Lightning that they would tell her that they proposed and were to be married. Lightning, as a Guardian Corp member (think, Cocoon Police), was shocked and upset that her sister would fall in love with such a trouble making street punk.
Long story short, Serah ends up being marked by a Fal'cie (Robo-God-ish that are used to keep cocoon running) and becomes a l'cie (someone "blessed" by a Fal'cie and is forced to complete a destiny). Cocoon freaks out as she's not the only l'cie and don't want it "spreading like a virus" so they essentially kidnap citizens marked and go to "purge" them out of Cocoon onto Pulse, essentially a death sentence in the nicest PR-friendly way possible. Lightning's CO basically tells her that it's all bullshit and are going to kill them by leaving them on Pulse. So Lightning goes off to save her sister.
So essentially Lightning has had happen to her:
-Her parents are dead
-she pushed out all her emotions so she could focus on her task of becoming a GC Unit to help her and her sister
-Her sister falls in love with a street rat
-her sister gets a death sentence put on her
-Her trust in the GC and Cocoon is shattered
-Her sister is then turned to crystal for all she knows, an eternity
-and is now running away from and trying to take down the very thing she relied on growing up essentially, Cocoon Government itself
-all the while being paired up with a bunch of goofball idiots.
all so she could maybe, possibly, save her sister and just live a normal life.

Every time you clear an area, the units in your party have a chance to give you an extra piece of loot. The chance of this happening is equal to their trust level. This means a 100% trust unit will always give you extra loot after a dungeon. You could get an extra 5 pieces of loot if you had a max trust team, which is alright.
Besides this and the reward for hitting 100%, nothing else really.

The Turks weren't too tough though the confuse bullshit can really fuck you over. For Sephiroth you're pretty much going to need two healers. I have Planet Protector so I RWed wall and there were still some tense moments (though it should be noted my party wasn't hasted) despite having a shared heal and mid regen plus Thief's Revenge and Drain Strike to help with the healing even more. If you have good damage SBs for VII or Clear Tranquil, you'd probably be able to do it with a Shout RW though you may have to reset a few times if you have bad luck with Meteor.

Samurais used to be pretty solid before the SSB era when retaliate was a thing. Even now (and coming up) there will be abilities and SBs for samurais that put them into retaliate as an added effect, but its just shitty. With every ultimate and higher boss attack being a generic aoe that ignores retaliate/defense its like what's even the point.
I miss the fights where the boss had attacks that hit up to 4 times and you could draw fire and counter 4 times. It was a rare situation where samurais really stood out, and we never get that shit anymore.

They WERE all tremendous babies, though. The entire cast all COINCIDENTALLY (except Rinoa) were all kids at the same orphanage, but it took them until the events of this game to grow up. Despite the popular belief, there is no experience threshold for encounters that will stop once you pass it. The amount of encounters are static and predetermined, and most importantly they have separate encounter pool on different area of the map. Each area has its own set of encounters. Even in a gigantic map like Zadehl Westersand, the north and south area have separate pool.
You will always fight same number of enemies total for the same exp. For example, there is always 1 Fossil Dragon in Phantom Forest. Miniatuar probably breaks this rule.
If you are farming for mats or exp, try to exhaust encounter pool for that area before moving on.

Material is the most important, but only upgrade if you need it (you get a notification when your inventory is full). Equipment is somewhat important, but you should sell old trash instead of keeping dozen of bronze daggers in your inventory, so always try to sell first before upgrading. Friend list may be useful in the future, but there is no point in worrying about it now since you just started.
Also, don't use lapis for summoning, buy the summon pack from bundle shop.

Its a DPS race with the FF7 team. Cloud's shitty BSB does wonders here. If your FF7 synergy is that good, then you can do Wall/DG/MG8 RW while getting by on Tifa's Boostga. Make sure she is in back row since her only good damage is going to be Burning Arrow anyways.

If you are talking about rerolling, you might want to go full autism and try to get at least Vaan + Chizuru, but if you are talking about using money and pulling, then I don't think she is particularly worth it unless you have no one that can use barrage and don't want to restart. Even then you might want to just wait for a Bartz or CoD rate up.
And TMRs are ability masteries, they work like equips that you put on your ability slots, the only thing that will limit the use of them is unit affinity to that type of magic (eg Meteor is a level 7 black magic, so only units that can equip level 7 or higher black magic can use it)

If you are rerolling, I recommend you to use just 5 tickets or so, and save the rest for future banners. Chizuru is pretty good, but we will get other strong units in the future so, unless you are somehow in love with her, there is no need to worry too much about not getting her now. Units like Exdeath and Cecil are more valuable in my opinion, and this rerollfest is a good opportunity to get them (and chizuru as a bonus).
And "any" character can use trust rewards, they just need to be able to equip it like any other spell/gear of the same type (most mages can use high level black magic like Meteor).
Try to farm some trust on all your Golbez before fusing them. Make a party full of them and do earth temple runs every now and then.
