This goes beyond the mere authority of the monarch, which has, for the past several decades, been roughly balanced with that of the nobility; this is about centralization, about encouraging his vassals to remember that his House holds the Kingdom and always will, about gathering power in the hands of the monarch.
Or, at least, that is what Baudouin expects the shift to do. In reality, it gives his vassals just as much right to centralize power in their own families' hands over time. The decision might not be so well-regarded in the future.
Also, sorrowfully, it is at this time that Baudouin learns of the death of his mother, Botokhui Borjigin. Her strong body held on for many years following the onset of her illness, but in the end her mind never recovered. After a long atrophy, Botokhui finally passed from the world to join her Aubry in heaven above.
Botokhui will be known to history as the "Mother of Jerusalem," and she will share, alongside her predecessor Eirene Komnenos, the unique distinction of being a shared ancestor of every Aleramici King of Jerusalem, for no male dynastic line of the Aleramici in Jerusalem can exist without being descended from both her blood and that of Eirene.
As per her own wishes and the wishes of her husband Aubry, Botokhui is buried beside him in the family crypt, with the coffin of their infant son Temoudjine placed atop her own.

Predictably, Jerusalem is one of the few states that is even able to reach Yemen, and the trek to the distant territory is a difficult one even for them. Nevertheless, Baudouin and Prince Aubry the Elder make it to the capital at Sa'naa and engage with the forces of the Ayyubid Sultan Amr.
During the fighting Baudouin engages and personally captures Sultan Amr, bringing the entire Crusade to an end before the battle is even completed. For his heroic personal efforts, the Pontiff grants him the Kingdom of Yemen.

Had the Aegyptians not monopolized the Hijaz it is possible that Baudouin could have administrated Yemen on his own, but as things stand, with the only naval forces available to him in the Red Sea originating in the Sinai, the lone port of Elim, and a few fishing boats provided from al-Jawf, he knows there is no way that Jerusalem might actually retain control of the territory. The matter, then, comes to a decision: who to grant it to?
The King briefly contemplates granting the title to Gerardino Aleramici, his distant relative and the husband of his daughter Bourgogne, but dismisses the idea; Gerardino is Italian and the entirety of his noble vassalage would be French, causing the same problems Aegyptus experienced back when it, too, was under Aleramici hands.
The choice, then, must be between his two sons. And, unfortunately, this is no real choice either; by law, only a pittance of titles might be granted to his eldest son prior to his own death, so that they might be equally divided. Therefore, in spite of Prince Aubry the Younger being the elder of his two sons, Baudouin must grant the title of King of Yemen to his younger (albeit more talented) son, Adalbert.
In addition to the Kingdom of Yemen, one other Crusader state is established in the region: Drzislav's Crusaders, a band of rabble from Croatia, seize the castle of Zufar in eastern Yemen and proclaim themselves independent from the Kingdom of Yemen, although aligned with it. Baudouin finds them annoying, but leaves them as a problem for his son Adalbert to handle.

Andronikos Branas, formerly Basileius Andronikos II, brother-in-law to Baudouin by marriage to his sister Guillaumette, called Baudouin into a campaign against a rebelling vassal of the Seljuk Sultan, Ibrahim "the Wolf." Although Baudouin requested that Aubry be buried in the royal crypt in Jerusalem, his wife Adalaida de Toulouse refused, preferring instead to bury him at "Mont Baudouin," the temple complex King Baudouin V constructed at the base of Mount Sinai in Nekhel, Aubry's seat for the short time that he ruled the Sinai. It is a just request, and Baudouin VI permits her to bury her husband in the temple built by his grandfather.

I might, but we'll see what happens. I'm not only bound by my characters' traits but also by events, and I've got no idea if a Crusader Empire is even a feasible thing in terms of how far I intend to expand. I have de jure empires turned on (meaning there are only three: the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and Persia), so I would need to expand and become large enough to found my own, which I'm not at all certain I could do. I also don't know what my goals would be if I established a theoretical "Crusader Empire," or what my new goals would be.

Baudouin kept his promise to his enemy, recklessly assaulting the capital of Ibrahim the Wolf as rapidly as his army could march to it. "Whatever the fool did to find himself here, he does not deserve the assistance of a true Christian King," Baudouin told his followers as they explored the remainder of the dungeons, ensuring that none were hiding within. "We will see if Andronikos lets him out; his fate is not my concern."
As it turns out Andronikos did free him, and the furious Ukhuna did not forget that Baudouin had refused to help him, in spite of their ties of marriage. Yet what could he do--did he dare to fight Jerusalem again?

And thus the Aleramici dynasty is poised to inherit significant lands in eastern Africa, so long as Iesousyko II can be kept on her throne, and Adalbert on his.
As Baudouin sets out on the march to relieve him, he receives word that his son Aubry's wife Gurbesu has given birth to a baby boy, whom Aubry has named after himself (none too humble, the prince). Although the child is ugly as sin, as he grows all would come to acknowledge that he is nevertheless just as bright as any of Bourgogne's children, if nowhere near as beautiful

Following the death of several council members, King Baudouin is finally able to begin implementing restrictions on the power of the Council thanks to the appointment of several loyalists, namely his brother Philippe and son Aubry. Although he knows that it will take decades to curb the power of the Council fully, if it is even possible, Baudouin nevertheless knows that he must begin making the effort immediately.
First and foremost, Baudouin forces his council to acknowledge that he has the right to revoke any of his vassals' titles at any time, for any reason. They've been adding a lot to the game with the patches like diplomatic mode map, more fleshed out federations and stuff, if they keep this up I feel like the game should finally be playable at the end of the year or so.

As of 1.2 it's still a bit of a disaster.
They added slave revolts but the faction system is terrible so you can't really manage your slave population. Either they rebel or they run away or they are completely docile, and you can't really do much about it unless you have tons of resources to spend on suppressing them every few months.
Also tachyon lances are completely overpowered and there's no reason not to use them, but the mid-game is so dull and uninteresting that I've never even reached that point.
Instead of balancing the combat, 1.2 just massively increased combat range, which means ships engage from several AU away and will often aggro on distant mining stations after killing a spaceport. There's no disengage button and retreating costs a ton of HP, so you can't really pull out of a system until most of the mining stations have been destroyed.

Baudouin and Gudrun had been married for over 15 years, and they got along well together, although truth be told it was mostly because of Gudrun's great beauty. Her personality--like that of her daughter Bourgogne, in some respects--left much to be desired, but she understood the duties of a woman and wife and, in that capacity, Baudouin and she worked well together. It was thus with great sorrow, although perhaps not true grief, that Baudouin received word several weeks later that she had died. Always a frail woman, it appears that a pregnancy at her age was more than her body could handle.
Already mourning her loss, Baudouin realizes that he will not only need to find a new wife when he returns to Jerusalem--for he is far too young to not remarry--but he will also need to personally tell his son Adalbert that his mother is dead. It is an unenviable task.

It will mostly be balancing so that the AI has a more reasoned ability to raise forces before a war which will depend on their leader's military and administrative ability. Similarly, the player will have a decision allowing him to start mobilizing levies for war which will make war taxes less effective and I'll increase their war exhaustion gain even higher, while the raising levies decision will be balanced by giving you severe penalties for not declaring war within a set timeframe of when you made the decision (which will be based on your choices of how to prepare in an event based on the decision, with each choice either giving you more time to prepare but less resources to do it or the inverse). The decision's effectiveness will also be based on your own leader's military ability and administrative score, with low scores in either leading to less benefits and greater maluses for both taking the decision as well as for not declaring war in time.

I'm not the brightest when it comes to modding, admittedly, but when I searched for how to do it it always seemed like I was just finding how to create a CoA template rather than how to implement a single CoA for a single dynasty. I was playing MP HoI4 with two of my friends. We were playing as Italy, Germany and Japan(my country). We engaged a large allied fleet with my two Carrier Task Forces with 6CV's, 10BB's, ~15CA's and 30-40CL's. When I realized I wasn't getting the advantage, I tried to retreat my fleets to a nearby port, which was right next to the "tile" we were fighting in, but to no avail. Combat would reinitialize several times, and I was loosing every time. When I made it to port, I lost more ships due to port strikes. We had fighters both the adjacent sea-air province and the land-air province, likely air superiority in both.
My question is, what went wrong? Did the game glitch out or is there something obvious I'm missing? Must Igit gud?. Loosing 5CV's, 9BB's and most CA's left me crippled in-game.

How to trivialize the game even more than it already is while playing as Germany in HoI4:
-start game, immediately boost popularity of fascism in the US
-wait until you get 100 political power, then justify wars against the netherlands and poland at the same time
-send volunteer forces to help nationalist spain if you give a fuck about that
-while making sure world tension stays below 25%, declare war against netherlands+poland
-swallow the whole of netherlands EXCEPT amsterdam - surround it and try to destroy any troops stationed there but pull your troops back before they actually take it
-push poland's front back until you hit warsaw and then do to warsaw as I described for amsterdam above
-when you think you're ready, attempt to end both wars on the same day by taking amsterdam and warsaw at the same time

That's an interesting pre-war setup anon. I've never seen a real north vs. south fight in Europe on that scale. Germany as always is going to be your biggest primary adversary, but you have a puppet France and Britain to deal with. So you have the 3 most industrialized nations fighting Southern Europe and most of the 'Rabian world. Not an even fight if am honest with you.
I cant really say I've ever gone toe to toe with Germany as Italy, but I've cracked their shit a few times with La Commune de France. Most of my games either devolved into meat-grinders on the Rhine that last 7-plus years with a 50/50 chance of victory or ended quickly because I took a massive risk. That risk usually involves throwing my weight behind Britain and wrecking the Kaisers fleet so I could use Marines( 6+ divs if you want to not fail) to secure a beach head that I could land Armored, Mech and Moto divs in northern Germany as fast as possible. Then I would rapidly proceed to wreck as much of north-central Germany as possible( While at the same time throwing everything at Alsace-Lorraine front to tie down the Germany army and gain some ground).
I usually get away with about a month and a half of free movement before a Slavic horde comes bearing in from the east to contain the break out. If it goes well most of Germany's IC will be out of commission for a few months. During that time you push the main front as hard as possible, at every angle and putting your IC into replenshing losses. The Germans will not be able to match your repleshiment and you can usually take enough of Germany that they wont be able to recover.

Now for your situation in Italy? Fuck man you may be able to fuck Germany early if you put enough men and material in Bohemia. It will likely be your best bet as a soft underbelly. If have the mobile assets and can wreck their economy before France and Britain can mobilize you might have a chance. But with that Manpower? You better win hard and quick or your fucked. Just make sure to give your MSPART a +5 soft attack enchantment bonus, have Grand Battle Plan for +110% planning bonus, and a level 9 general for +45% combat bonus.
Funny enough its actually impossible to train your field marshals with these, because the XP is gained per hour of battle per division in battle. To train your field marshals you want to just shit out a few hundred divisions with just 1 infantry brigade in them and have them zerg the enemy. This is why China has the best generals in the game.

Ok, I've done some reading, and I have the answer.
The weight of the 28 cm guns on the Scharnhorst were very light weight weapons, designed to be fitted on 'fast battleships' which would replace the Deutschland-class battleships.
The 40.6 cm SK C/34 is a fucking behemoth cannon, weighing 1.5 metric tons each.
In short, if you were to widen a Scharnhorst-class to the point where you could even fit dual 40.6 cm cannons, the weight of the cannons and the modifications would raise the waterline so much that a somewhat bad storm could easily sink the ship.

I know its a bad idea to throw in heavies because they'll tank the fuck out of the division's speed, but should i consider going very high in width with these? Im planning on using them to punch holes and encircle.
